Worst Star Trek Captain

Postby Muslim Christians » Sat Apr 02, 2011 7:01 am

who is the Worst Captain in STar Trek Ever..

please post your reasons

if I missed one you hate, please add it too

I have excluded George Kirk because he was captain for the shortest time of them all, with a track record of zero blunders, and he managed to rescue a ton of people.

Janeway - she is the Angela Merkel of Star Trek and like the original, she isn't really capable of running any ship that is bigger than a life raft. With this command style, people can only be tempted to murder, but not to a good performance.

Ohh i Forgot Mathew Decker and i Apologize
for those who are not familiar he was in the Doomsday Machine (original series)
and he broke down and freaked out when he faced it.
this is NOT how a captain should act. and if i could redo the poll id add him and vote for him

Janeway is the only captain who would actually fire onthe enemy instead of trying to "talk" however, i still think she was an ineffective captain, even if shes the only one with balls

I would argue that there should be two dfferent kirks on the poll: the old timeline kirk (series) and new timeline kirk (movie).

I'd say this should be dependant on captain ability, not actors ability to act.
although i kind of understand your comment. the old Captain Pike is much more effective as a Captain than the new Captain Pike. I think both Kirks are equally capable (the character not the actor)(which i put as second or third best captain)

Sisko massively went over his powers as captain and should of resigned his commission as soon as he became a religious figure to the population he was assigned to oversee or at the very least transferred (why leave an inexperienced commander in such a position as the wormhole?)

and this was only the start of his command Jesus Christ

It's not about acting. I'd argue the two characters are a bit different. While both are good, however brash; no one could argue that if the same man led two different lives he would be the same person or captain. I realize there is a nature vs nurture argument to be found in here somewhere, but old timeline Kirk provides us with much more to go off of. If I were to pick which was a better captain between the two: Old Kirk, hands down. He's more experienced.

I can definitely agree, his role as a peacekeeper of the internal workings in the ship was pretty good though, (early in the series that is.

Because he was a religious figure the Bajorans wouldn't have stood for him being transferred or demoted.

Anyway, I nominate the M5 unit.

Captain Terrell of the USS Reliant. Not only was he so lax as a captain as to allow the crew of a science vessel whose mission it is to study planets to not notice that there was a planet missing from the solar system and that another had shifted orbit, but he went into an alien ship without a transporter lock with only a science officer for back-up. Even Kirk would have brought Ensign Ricky for cannon fodder. ;)

To be fair to Terrell, something weird enough was going on that no-one missed said planet, not even the usually quite competent Pavel Chekov, and it wasn't an alien ship.

WHAT? how in the world can i miss a captain from the best star trek movie.
i feel ashamed,
so if this was redone, remove the ones with zero votes
(Christopher Pike, Jean-Luc Picard, Rachel Garrett all very effective captains)
and put in
Captain Terrell \
M-5 (although i thoroughly disagree as it put duty above his existence)
and Matthew Decker

but even then i bet Captain Janeway will win for worst.... shes just hated too much that people overlook worse captains to seek their Vendettas.

Kirks fetish for leaving his command chair in favour of going on potentially dangerous scouting missions planetside, constantly risking being cut off from the ship, being killed, leaving his crew stranded etc. etc., quite generally very irresponsibly leaving the position he's supposed to fill in order to chase some alien booty even if it means basically not being able to actually give orders that may very well decide over the life and death of the entire crew and then taking his entire command staff with him while doing so kind of takes the cake, even if his reasoning (Alien booty) is respectable from a man's point of view.

Captain Edward Jellico who became captain of the Enterprise for a brief time in TNG. Awful captain. Too authoritarian, ignorant, and didn't listen to the crew's concerns. Very irritating.

Kirk's reputation for "chasing alien booty" is considerably overblown. While constantly having all the senior officers beaming down to planets is a legitimate criticism, it's endemic to all Trek captains.

Actually, Jellico came across as quite competent. He certainly wasn't arrogant, and naval captains are supposed to be authoritarian. The crew's concerns in that episode were pushing the borders of just whining.

Mostly this. BUT:Chekhov was command not science. He was Terrell's first officer, not his science officer. :geek:

This is the future. Standard protocol is to promote peace and understanding plus SCIENCE. Not fire on an enemy rather then solve it diplomatically.

Decker was an extremely competent captain. He broke down because he made a simple error when evacuating his crippled vessel and then had to watch his entire crew get killed without anything he could do.
