Apple is not technologically innovative

Apple is the greatest company of all time. Did you know that for one of their models the offer a 50,000 dollar 1 year limited warranty package warranty package. The computer in question is a server thats when upgraded fully onthe website is around 15-20,000 dollars. So around 70,000 dollars. The sad part is there's st least one moron that's bought it. Simultaneously we also upgraded one of their PCs up to 22,000 dollars. Then we arranged the parts (Or comparable one) individually at another website, came out at around 10,000. Both were total overkill and more powerful and power hungray then anything you'd ever need. Much less use. Even the most intensive programs are capable of handling only a fraction of the power they had.

It always amazes me that even during economically troubled times such as these some companies insist on treating their customers like trash. If she wants a data management solution for her IMac then give her one!

If economics worked the way economists say it works then you would be out of a job for treating your customers that way and your company would be out of business.

Luckily for you, capitalism does not work as well at supplying people with what they need as the free market proponents think.

By the way, I run an IT company on the side (just word of mouth, i'm to busy as it is) and I happily work with clients in getting them solutions to any IT related issue regardless of their OS (Linux, Mac, Old versions of windows, new versions of windows, ancient mac versions, ect).

Although I'm pretty much booked, I'd be happy to take away the customers from you that you don't want.

Especially that poor lady who you mistreated just because she wanted data management capabilities on her imac.

Cost-benefit analysis. We didn't have the capabilities to do what she wanted, and we told her that. She then got all incredulous at us. She can go buy a 25000 dollar solution from Centric if that's what she wants, of course that would break her budget.

We're not going to go out of our way to get 5000 dollars from her, with the sort of financial and time costs that would associate with what she wants.

The market operates by compromises, and if no compromise can be met, then too bad. Capitalism requires mutual benefit. If there is no mutual benefit, then there's no deal.

Exactly what services are you providing for 5000? What exactly did she need?

It's been said - their primary marketable item is their image.

They are a cool, hip, trendy company. The only way to be cool, hip, or trendy is to pay too much money to have a company stamp a half-eaten apple onto most of your consumer electronics. Additionally, Apple is the underdog, they are anti-capitalist, anti big corporatist world (I'm not exactly sure where I heard people saying this, but I know it's the perception for some people out there - yes, I know it is untrue.)

I don't own a single Apple product myself - I'd rather pay for the value of any item, not the value +30-50% just to be hip, and cool. My wife owns one iPod (It's one of the earlier video iPods) that she bought years ago. Other than that, we have nothing in our house that's Apple (excluding a couple accessories for her iPod - but nothing major.)

Yeah but you can find just as shiny new things from other companies. OR even if you just buy components and put together a comparable PC to their Macs, you can still have the shiny white look. Actually the case I'm looking at for my next desktop has the apple look but with actual awesome mixed in.

When Apple attracts the best IT minds viruses will follow. This is why Linux and Windows have viruses. Apple is not innovative enough to attract the best IT professionals and is in a catch 22.

Problem is, nobody would use it because it is to useful. Remember: Apple users hate anything actually useful.

Exactly what services are you providing for 5000? What exactly did she need?

We would have built her an entire information system, including the technical and human aspects included therein. Probably would have gone with mySQL for the database, and I'd have let our software guy work with her to find a good contact management system that would link into the db, some security management would be built in. We'd have given her some nice little tweaks to suit her needs--but we're not going to go out of our way. She would have probably wound up using mix in a nice dose of web design, SEO, and social media consulting to give it that "sexy" feel.

Of course, she also wanted us to look into linking stuff to her iPad, which was pretty damn near threshold crossing.

I'm not Apple fan but I appreciate quality of their products, Ipod nano/shuffle and laptops in particular. The wide introduction of EFI in the place of obsolete BIOS was a really great move .

By the other hand there are few "sins" like:
- prices,
- hype,
- low "hackability",
- not enough contribution to BSD community,
- messing with standards in every possible way (AppleTalk, FireWire).
