Personally, I wonder what there R&D meetings must be like...

"So we've just made the iPaddle. Now what?"
"We could, ah, make it bigger."
"That we could do, James. However, the iPaddle is a larger version of the iPingu, which is in turn a larger version of the iPad 14. Currently one iPaddle takes up the size of three football pitches."
"Hmm, we could make it thinner?"
"We could try, but currently the iPaddle is invisible when one turns it on its side."
"I've got it!"
"Yes, Nigel?"
"We could produce a version of iPaddle that is an extremely thin screen, attached by wires to a larger box. Then, because iPaddles tend to get dirty, we could connect a device that moves around on the desk in order to navigate an avatar of some description on the screen. Then, because typing on our virtual keyboard is so hard, we could sell a hardware version, where you actually have to push down on the keys for it to work!"

...

"That's called a desktop."

I really have to agree with you on this one. It seems like Apple started out with a moderately likable product and then just..went off the deep end.

First there was that big iPod that was nearly the weight of a brick, and got scuffed if you breathed wrong. Now, we have mp3 players that are small enough to swallow. There's definitely a problem with that..

iPods are so much better than any other random MP3 player.

Well, my iPod has much more battery life than my other MP3 player, which sucked crap.

Anything that uses a 3.5mm headphone jack can be jacked-in to many car stereos, and a lot of home theater systems now. I was honestly happier with my $20 2 gig XO brand mp3 player than the iPod shuffle I had years ago. It didn't use any proprietary software, plugged in with a micro-usb cord, and had a sturdy metal clip instead of the plastic crap I've had to deal with in years past. (Add in that if something catastrophic happened to it, I generally had $20 lying around to replace the thing.)

Of course, considering how Microsoft probably means to make the OS better than what they made previously. I don't really like the system, but it has helped for the bad errors to be fixed before it actually gets to the main board. As compared to the Mac OS, which estimates to be 2 to 3 years before anything can be done, which is usually minimal.

Personally I really don't like the idea that I am paying money to beta test a product in the hopes that they will fix some of the bugs I have to put up with at some point before next year.

It's not just Apple that do that - Microsoft came up with Kinect, where you can put yourself in the game. This sounds a lot like the EyeToy that was created for the PlayStation 2, was conceived in 1999 and released in 2003. (I mentioned this to my ex's brother, who said something along the lines of it being original and was in no way connected to any Sony POS.)
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)
I am usually rewriting stuff about Mid Lothian - just because it's true today isn't necessarily true tomorrow.

So excuse me for generating a thread that, apparently, created some forty-odd posts. If you don't like it, you can fuck off.

Already mentioned that I have no problem with Apple as a company. I have no problem with their products. I own an iPod Touch, and have for nearly two years.

It always amazes me that even during economically troubled times such as these some companies insist on treating their customers like trash. If she wants a data management solution for her IMac then give her one!

If economics worked the way economists say it works then you would be out of a job for treating your customers that way and your company would be out of business.

Luckily for you, capitalism does not work as well at supplying people with what they need as the free market proponents think.

By the way, I run an IT company on the side (just word of mouth, i'm to busy as it is) and I happily work with clients in getting them solutions to any IT related issue regardless of their OS (Linux, Mac, Old versions of windows, new versions of windows, ancient mac versions, ect).

Although I'm pretty much booked, I'd be happy to take away the customers from you that you don't want.

Especially that poor lady who you mistreated just because she wanted data management capabilities on her imac.

Yes and Windows can do that too. It really shows nothing about the operating system. Almost every single system regarless of its share of the market can have the control pannel and system preferences open at once. The ones that cant would have next to know customers and money

Thats what we are told yet I know my cousin goes to a preschool where the children already use Windows computers. Have you got any proof that it takes less time to learc Mac functions then Windows or even something far less, like reasons why it would take less time to learn?

Personal Computers,

Steve Jobs Built the first one my Friend...

No, he didn't. He built an early commercially successful personal computer, certainly not the first. He picked up almost all of the concepts for Apple from Xerox-PARC.

Having to meet with a client who wants a data management solution for her goddam iMac is definitely the sort of thing that's going to bring out a bad fucking response, especially when she's incredulous that we don't have what she wants on hand, and that we're unwilling to sink the cash into what some mom-and-pop fucking non-profit wants--and that nobody else has asked for, or will ask for for quite some time.

Cost-benefit analysis. We didn't have the capabilities to do what she wanted, and we told her that. She then got all incredulous at us. She can go buy a 25000 dollar solution from Centric if that's what she wants, of course that would break her budget.

We're not going to go out of our way to get 5000 dollars from her, with the sort of financial and time costs that would associate with what she wants.

The market operates by compromises, and if no compromise can be met, then too bad. Capitalism requires mutual benefit. If there is no mutual benefit, then there's no deal.

This sounds a lot like the EyeToy that was created for the PlayStation 2, was conceived in 1999 and released in 2003. (I mentioned this to my ex's brother, who said something along the lines of it being original and was in no way connected to any Sony POS.)

They're superficially similar, but the Kinect is far more advanced.

Don't look at what the mainstream is doing with the Kinect, look at what the fringe is doing with it. That's where you'll see how awesome it is.

Yes.

Unless of course it's not OK for a woman to ask for a female to ask for a female officer to carry out body checks. In which case, the answer would be no.
