Harry Potter

Postby Vichy-Corsica » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:48 am

What do people think of Harry Potter. Personally I think its a good read but its plot is quite weak in some areas. Also I think Pottermania has gone on for way too long. So what do NSG think.

Shouldn't this be in the fiction section?

I thought this was going to be one of those "Harry Potter encourages demon worship! Salt it and burn it!" threads.

J.K. Rowling's daughter actually goes to the same school as me.

However, I'm not a massive fan of Harry Potter books; they're not bad, but not groundbreaking either.

Furthermore, I feel they are more aimed towards younger children and pre-adolescents.

I quite like the books. As North Suran said, they aren't ground breaking pieces of literature, but I enjoyed being a twittering Twilight fangirl for these books. I can actually read these over many times.

When I was in elementary school I loved Harry Potter...that was of course RIGHT when it came out back in the mid/latter 90s. Not a fan now.

EDIT: I see the movies out of nostalgia though!

Not literature, but decent pop fiction.

I thought the Potter series was great...they were one of the first book series I read as kid, so theyre kind of special to me, :)

I hate the last three movies though, I wish theyd just stick closer to the source material...It worked for Watchmen and the Dark Knight afterall...

Worked is a strong word.

Also, The Dark Knight isn't particularly close to its source material; a few of the things the Joker does are from the original comic series, but everything else is pretty new.

But, if you notice, Watchmen's user score is higher, ;) , as they are the ones buying tickets, Id say it counts more, :p

The point is, I want to see a live action version of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince....not Writer so and so's version of what he thinks the Half Blood Prince should be about...

You just wait. Today it's sparkly vampires, tomorrow it's the thirteen hundred pages of that timeless pseudo-philosophy classic, Atlas Shrugged. In no time flat America will back on it's feet, everyone enjoying unlimited prosperity and wealth. Except for the lazy poor of course, who are to shiftless to stop going out and sucking blood and playing vampire baseball and get real jobs like the only the finest mary-sues can. No, wait, I might be getting the two books confused....

I like Harry Potter's for Adult version, The Dresden Files.

What keeps me up at night is that I know there's a fanfic of both Harry's together...in a horrible horrible, vomit inducing situation.
