At the end of the day, the new government is probably going to fuck libya over more than Gadaffi would have.

Especially when you look at who the outsiders coming in to "help" are and what their track record for that is.

Death was too good for him. I would have rather seen him face justice and punishment by law, but I can hardly blame the rebels/NTC fighters for doing what they did. The footage of his capture was pretty disturbing. He looked so frail and weak. Ironic that he called the rebels rats, when he himself was captured hiding in a drain. Disturbingly poetic.

IIRC Egypt was in on this from the start, NATO have openly overstepped their UN resolution, Sarkozy was supported by Libyans apparently too.

it takes more than a few days of hiding to suddenly become like that, and the images I've seen look like mediocre gadaffi impersonators.

Killing Gadaffi, impulsive decision by NTC soldiers or not, was the pragmatic thing to do.

I am entirely unsurprised that Russia and China (IIRK) vetoed the resolution on Syria, they said basically NATO overstepping 1973 was why they'd done it. The way I see it, the resolution was to protect civilians, so that could in theory have meant air strikes on rebel forces if they were endangering civilians, and instead what happened was NATO picked sides and enacted a regime change by proxy. Staggering chutzpah.

Gaddafi blew any chance with NATO when he started threatening to attack passenger jets:

He essentially confessed he was a threat to civilians.

TEXT: "...Israeli military sources consider the fall of the Gaddafi regime to pose a “strategic danger” especially on the Zionist entity's southern front. Israeli army radio said Friday morning that Libya had greatly improved its relations with Israel as of late, and pointed out that the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Avigdor Lieberman, made special efforts to complement Gaddafi during the board of ministers and security board meetings. He said that Gaddafi is a “credible leader”..."

Lieberman said what?

Also, what a shame, I would have loved to see him in the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Since there's a video of Gaddafi alive just after he was captured, I'm wondering if he did just succumb to his apparent wounds or whether he was summarily executed? If the latter, was it impulsive and independent actions by the NTC soldiers on the ground or did they get an order from the Executive Board? I mean, for instance, Jibril himself is an ex-regime man. Is it a case of dead men don't speak aka, imho, the bin laden killing?

I understand the desire for revenge, and the notion of why should Gaddafi be given a trial when he didn't provide them for many of his countrymen, but - if it was indeed an execution - I would have preferred a fledging democracy to try and follow due process because that's how the Gaddafi's of this world can come about.

Still, good riddance but the hard work obviously starts now.

I would have too.

Too bad the NTC soldiers decided to kill him instead.

I saw the vid too. If you look good there is a part 1 and part 2. Both parts are divided by that guy moving the camera for around 2-3 secs away from Gaddafi. Why? Because he was killed in those 2-3 secs. In part 1 he is alive, when he is in the truck, he is dead.

I just realized Gaddafi's death was so poetic.

He was born in Sirte, and then he died in Sirte.

Very poetic.

Libya WAS an Italian colony. It wouldn't surprise me.
But they've probably already beheaded him, dipped the head in formaldehyde or some shit, and stuck it on a pike, British-style.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to even translate articles with the word "gerechtigheid" in them.

nterpol en het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) riepen donderdag Saif al-Islam Kaddafi opgeroepen zich ''in het belang van de gerechtigheid'' zo snel mogelijk over te geven

Literally meaning

Interpol and the International Court of Law sayed Thursday to Saif Al Islam to surrender 'in name of order'.

Wishfull thinking. It will take years or close to decade before the country will be stabilized and rebuilt.
My bet is on situation like Iraq, western supported government and lots of "baddies" with guns, IEDs and all that stuff.
