A news channel in Arabic has shown images of Gaddafi appearing to scream in pain. I don't know how I can describe it, but it doesn't appear to be safe for viewing here.

Guardian has it too. I don't think it's too graphic for NSG, but I'm not a mod, and I suppose anyone who wants to can surf on over to the Guardian UK website.

This conflict reports sure are frustrating. Some are saying captured, some are saying captured but badly injured, and others, like some in the NTC and media (like Al Jazeera are saying he's dead.

Muammar Gaddafi killed in gun battle

NTC military chief says toppled leader died of wounds following capture near his hometown of Sirte.

Abdul Hakim Belhaj, a NTC military chief, has confirmed that Muammar Gaddafi has died of his wounds after being captured near Sirte.

The body of the former Libyan leader was taken to a location which is being kept secret for security reasons, a NTC official said.

"Gaddafi's body is with our unit in a car and we are taking the body to a secret place for security reasons," Mohamed Abdel Kafi, an NTC official in the city of Misrata, told Reuters.

Earlier, Jamal abu-Shaalah, a field commander of NTC, told Al Jazeera that the toppled leader had been caught.

"He's captured. He's wounded in both legs ... He's been taken away by ambulance," Abdel Majid, a senior NTC military official said.

I heard that NATO struck a convoy that was heading outside Sirte. If this lead to his death would this not be a breach of international law. Not that anyone gives a shit but its still a breach.

According the live BBC feed I'm watching, NATO have now confirmed that they attacked 'a convoy outside Sirte'.

I make no comment or judgement about the legality thereof.

I have a very hard time believing that, i really don't think gaddafi forces are out to attack civlians, especially after they were getting beat by NATO and the rebels, it makes no sense. That strike was just an excuse.

A) Gaddafi was captured alive, but subsequently died of his wounds. If true, this would help explain the confused reports.

B) Gaddafi was captured and killed by the NTC; as New Bazlantis notes, the convoy attacked by NATO did not include Gaddafi himself.

C) They have been given permission to film the body.

A collaborating source from The Financial Times:

“He’s captured. He’s wounded in both legs...He’s been taken away by ambulance,” Mr Majid told Reuters by telephone. He later said: “He was also hit in his head...There was a lot of firing against his group and he died.” An eyewitness later told Sky News that Col Gaddafi had been shot.

It seems like that's about what happened, and it fits with the Al-Arabiya report above.

If he is still alive (which I don't believe is the case) I doubt that he'll be alive much longer, especially not for a proper trial. The hatred on the streets that the rebels have for the Colonel is enormous and there is always some opportunistic officer that happens to 'lose himself' in times such as these.
