Someone's going around on the talk page for the civil war map on Wiki. (S)he has claimed that a German TV station has reported the liberation of Sirte, but since there is no source for it, Wiki will not update the map.

Just thought I'd share that little tidbit with you guys.

Please don't rush quite yet. It's still early news but I'd just point it out to everyone on NationStates. If true beyond doubt, we'll party.

So he might have stayed in Sirte then? If true that might be the reason why Sirte has been tad difficult to capture.

What a dumbass...staying in Sirte? He deserved to be captured if he was that stupid. Should've left in that convoy through Niger when he had the chance.

If its true, then top priority now is to get elections up and running.

Although, after all the reports of his sons being captured and then they'd turn up for interviews, I wouldn't be surprised if this was false...

I hope that this is true. It would let this thing finish at last. After a settling period at least.

Their top priority should be to take care of the population, next regime/leadership can wait for a bit.

It seems that the rumour has escalated to a speculation of Gaddafi's death. What some senior NTC officials are saying is that they've caught a "big fish", or someone very important who is linked to his regime.

Why do military dictators feel the need to hide in holes in the ground ???

^ Was Gaddafi hiding in a hole? NTC spokesperson said he had been on military convoy escaping from Sirte when that convoy was hit by NATO planes, commander of Gaddafis army was also killed in the strike. So NTC can tank NATO that they got him.

This could end up turning into another Iraq. You might have some holdouts(loyalists to Qadaffi) that will continue to keep things "interesting"in Libya. All this while a government friendly to the West is being set up and it's police and military trained.(re-trained?)
