Regarding the issue of ethnic cleansing in Sirte: I just checked this map of ethnic groups in Libya. Sirte is not actually marked on the map, but the general area is smack-dab in the middle of the Arab/Arab-Berber areas. Most people talking about ethnic cleansing are more concerned about black Libyans, which the Berbers and Arabs obviously look different from.

I have no doubt that there will be lootings and probably some revenge killings after the battle. However, those killings will most likely be politically, rather than ethnically, motivated killings.

BTW, can someone tell me if it counts as ethnic cleansing if a portion of an ethnic group is killed based on their political beliefs and not their race?

No, it's simply political repression. But Berbers were persecuted anyway because of their race. This happened across all of North Africa, although their rights have largely been returned in Algeria and Morocco. Berber rights in Libya were non existent until the NTC.

On a more serious note, I've got a few interesting articles to share. The first two are old, but they serve to illustrate that the lives of the infamous "Amazonian Guards", Gaddafi's eccentric all-female bodyguard force, were not the ones of glitz and glamour peddled by Gaddafi's propaganda stunts. I know that many of us here have at some point or another made funny quips in this thread about what fun it would be to have our own Amazon bodyguards. However, these articles are quite sobering on the matter, and show that these "Amazons" actually lived quite traumatic and horrifying lives.

More recently, I also found an interesting article in, of all places, the New York Times online about a new wave of young anti-Gaddafi college students as well as professors, including a new dean dispatched by the NTC, cleaning up and reinventing the University of Tripoli, trying to undo all the brainwashing done by the Gaddafi regime.

One thing in there that really creeped me out was that near the former "Green Hall", where Gaddafi visited and gave propaganda lectures, Gaddafi had his own secret bedroom suite on campus, with a queen bed, a hot tub, and a... gynecological examining table.

Despite what the imperialist paid pig-dog stooge Laerod may have told you, the Leading Light Communists have no agenda but the truth. Thus, the article I linked to contains nothing but the truth. Why would the LLCO lie? They never lie. In addition, this article proves the weakness of the imperialist pig-dog National Transitional Council (<<<<<< RATS) without help from the imperialist NATO alliance.
