Asperger's isn't a disorder. It has about as much good as bad about it. It's really just an alternate type of brain.

Many of the negatives come from Asperger's people interacting with neurotypicals. Besides,

Some traits that are typical of Asperger's syndrome, such as attention to detail and focused interests, can increase chances of university and career success. Many people with Asperger's seem to be fascinated with technology, and a common career choice is engineering. But scientific careers are by no means the only areas where people with Asperger's excel. Indeed, many respected historical figures have had symptoms of Asperger's, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, and Thomas Jefferson.

Your own source mentions positive aspects to Asperger's and doesn't once say "disorder".

Once Chitina embraced diversity, our head-of-state announced that he would continue trying to be gay, if obviously not very successfully. His ex-boyfriends unanimously agreed, resulting in a pity-orgy at Chitina's world-class "BJ Bordello and Coffee Bar." It's not always easy to spot someone with the condition. Only because Aspergers doesn't seem like a condition, doesn't mean it isn't. One of the unusual side effects can be a strong focus on a subject or hobby, and most of the people I have met who have the condition are quite smart and easy to get along with, but you do sense a barrier there. A friend of mine apologises for the smallest of things, he's so worried that he might offend that he uses it as a defence in an attempt to fill the gap where his emotional understanding is missing, yet he's very nice.

If someone told me my condition wasn't one, I may be offended.

Sorry folks... wasn't trying to start a debate over Asperger's... :(

And Matt, medication for it? when I was diagnosed, way back in 93, there were no meds for Asperger's. Also no support groups, almost no knowledge, etc. When I was diagnosed, my mom was given a 2 double-sided pieces of paper that amounted to what was known about it at the time...

My medication is not really made for Asperger's, but damn does it help with the symptoms.

Thank you. The dismissive attitude some people adopt sometimes is offensive.

I frankly see nothing wrong with a person who suffers from Asperger's. They're people, same a everybody else. But I do not go too far as to say their symptoms don't count or that their condition isn't really a condition. I am sure their symptoms are very real and do cause them stress.

Whatever, OK? I don't feel like debating it.

I still don't see how something that has a bunch of effects, both positive and negative, can be called entirely a "disorder" the same way OCD or schizophrenia can.

My symptoms are real, but I haven't had as much stress since I got out of school. And as far as the dismissive attitudes, it's really ignorance, and to me it's annoying, but not quite offensive.
