Global Warming is a way to steal my money. This is natural climate change. According to ice samples, it was hotter around 1000 AD. Yes, I'm aware of the fact polar bears and shit will die. But thats what zoo's are for. ;)

Both are technically correct, as cold does cause snow, but enough snow reflects sunlight away from the Earth and prevents the planet from warming. ;)

The Truth and Light wrote:I was debating this with my friends yesterday. They are both scientific theories, thus completely observable and mostly supported by evidence, except global warming does not seem as likely an idea as global climate change.

During the early part of the year, blizzards covered the US. Now, going by a strict, definition of global warming, this is countered to the theory. What I think is more likely, is not that the temperature is slowly rising over the whole earth, but rather the climate is shifting. Rainy areas are becoming droughty, beaches are flooding, precipitation is occuring in commonly dry spots, as well as the slow melting of the ice-caps. I think that, under global warming, our seasons should not be so polar. But what do you think NS? Which is the better theory?

Guess what? I don't really understand it, but the earth getting warmer is what's causing all the snow! It's really weird. Anyway, my point is, whatever is going on, I DON'T LIKE IT!!!!!!!!

I'd say the 1.9891×10^30 kg ball of burning hydrogen and helium currently undergoing a nuclear reaction that is providing us all the energy we have on earth.

If it's too cold, though, there can't be snow. In Antarctica there's no snow, there are tiny ice particles.

people will use whatever euphamism sounds simpler. corporate media, whatever sounds most dramatic.
mid ocean temperatures are rising by a few fractions of a degre, which may or may not be caused to some extent by human activity.
this in turn, does appear to be having semi-dramatic effects on long term weather patterns.
on the one paw, there is a temptation to over dramatize this. on the other, there are vested interests in denying it entirely.

the less obvious to do with weather effects of it, are plenty real enough.
demographics of famine and disease specifically, which are far more of a real and present danger to the web of life then war on any scale or of any nature.

habitat loss has also bearing on lowering of species diversity which is another factor of real and legitimate concern.

the main, if not only, and certainly primary, disagreement is over degree of influence human activity is having on it. most if not all of the denial that it does, is being sponsored by corporate vested interests.
of course that doesn't mean they HAVE to be wrong, but suspicious intent is suspicious intent.
and then all the attempts to deflect that doubt on the actual and honest science, again by those same corporate interests.

what i think is important to keep in mind, is that we DON'T NEED to use as much combustion as we do. and while that may not be the only factor, it is extremely likely to be the largest one. exacerbated of course by the unprecedented and ever increasing level of human population.

fossil fuel interests, even though knowing their stock in trade is limited, and in many cases unarguably harmful, wish to obstruct transition to cleaner and more sustainable methods. this is one instance where capitalism, or at least corporate capitalism, which has in the past been the chief means of overcoming obsticals to technological evolution, has become one itself instead.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

"economic freedom" is "the cake"

Why can't climate change be something simple like another paleocene–eocene thermal maximum

Climate change didn't make much of an appearance in the public realm until the mid-2000s, though.

Indeed! Which is why the global peak body on climate change, formed in 1988, was called the Intergovernmental Panel on Global Warming.

Wait, no, it's the IPCC, not the IPGW. Guess what CC stands for?

The fact is that 'climate change' and 'global warming' have ALWAYS coexisted and are 100% interchangeable. Neither term is older to any appreciable degree.

The climate is always changing and there is no longer any science on the subject. It is all armature opinion and politics. I am sick of the number of times someone says "it’s the highest/lowest temperature/rainfall on record". Most of the time they are highly selective and the words are twisted to mean something different. And even if this was true on record temperature means nothing. With so many cities in the world and differently defines areas in each country you would expect each country to have several broken records every year. This could be on a state level, city level, port, out as sea, town or anything else.

Combine this with the fact that the climate change believers never bother to explain the science it is no wonder there is serious doubt. In Al Gore’s film "The inconvenient truth" he uses a scene from the comedy TV series, "Futurama" to explain climate change.

This is not a joke nor is this funny. A former political leader whom was not known for doing anything serious to help the environment whilst in office is lecturing the current leaders on what to do by using cartoons where sun rays and greenhouse gasses have personality for the explanation of his scientific basis. And when searches are done for the science for climate change it is never fully expalined nor are experiements carried out to demonstrate that this will have.

The climate change debate should be rested until there is a clear way of demonstarting the effects. Instead the focus should be on Ocean Acidification, energy security and energy efficency which are all proven. There are classroom repeatable experimets to verify Ocean Acidification, energy security in increased with energy diversification and renwable supplies and energy efficency makes sense to the normal persons wallet.

People do not understand what climate change is. They just understand that the left will condemn them if they don’t believe and that they are meant to feel guilty. This will never lead to a possitive result
One persons freedom is always at the expense of another. There are these dam laws in this country of mine preventing me from saying "hi" to my neighbour with a baseball bat. All I want to do is have my freedom of expression so he looses his freedom of movement.

God I hated that, we had to watch "The Inconvenient Truth" in social studies. No idea why it wasn't in science, maybe that is a secret clue.
