On a serious note, how could this affect Japan's demographics? Meaning how many of the people working on rebuilding will stay instead of going home? Happened in Europe after all the rebuilding after WW2. Not the same magnitude, but still.

To head off the trolling, Japan has been overdue for another Tokai earthquake for about 10-50 years. This quake relieved a lot of the pressure between the Eurasian and North American plates. That will reduce the severity of the all but inevitable next Tokai earthquake.
