I apologize if you were offended by my statements, which admittedly were partially driven by anger from watching that horrendous video-blog, but I will not back down with my disapproval of religion.

Reasonable discourse? On the InternetFinally.
UnLike most Christians, I'm no good at evangelizing, so I respect your beliefs and will not attempt to used flawed/incomplete/faith-based arguments. Simply respect the fact that lots of us can sleep better believing in the Big Unicorn In The Sky and we can settle this without butthurt peacefully. Any religion can be subverted (faith isn't that far from blind obedience, after all), but that doesn't make Christianity unique for it's 'manipulability'...

Amazing rescue:
Helpless in the rubble following the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami, the baby girl had survived for three days in the remains of the city of Ishinomaki in the state of Miyagi.

Against the odds, the four-month old was rescued apparently safe and unharmed after being spotted a member of Japan's Self-Defense Force.

That's an amazing bright spot amidst a terribly devastating situation. I, for one, am hopeful for many more of the still-missing Japanese after reading this article. I really hope to read more articles like this in the coming days...

One thing that has struck me about this tragedy is the way the Japanese people have dealt with it in such a civilised way. The orderliness of the lines for food and the general calm focus on dealing with the situation. A lot of it is down to their preparedness for disaster, which is another good reflection on their society.

Yeah, I'd say her life is going to be messed up if not ruined.

And at that point someone will say this to her:

Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

How about both? Insanely brutal? Brutally insane? They both were, you know.

People really need to stop laying blame on people and governments (which, in the final analysis, are people - just jumped up people) for acts of nature and figure out what they can do to help the survivors. It's highly likely that some time in the future, we're going to need that same help.

Or, sorry, honey, it's not karma, it's an earthquake.

I quite agree with those who say that we should stop holding government responsible for natural disasters. Governments can only be liable to the degree they encourage people to go and live on a major breach-line or somewhere close to the sea/ocean below sea level.

Yeah, can't you just see this in LA as the rescue teams fight their way through lines of looters and lookie-loos? The National Guard will be called out, not to rescue people, but to keep people from killing each other over flat screen TVs.
