It was on the 12th.

American?
And people say Australians are racist.
(According to the Facebook groups, anyway)

Reporting from Tokyo --
She was elderly and alone, injured and in pain. When the massive earthquake struck, a heavy bookshelf toppled onto Hiroko Yamashita, pinning her down and shattering her ankle.
When paramedics finally reached her, agonizing hours later, Yamashita did what she said any "normal" person would do, her son-in-law recounted later: She apologized to them for the inconvenience, and asked if there weren't others they should be attending to first.
The worst earthquake in Japan's recorded history left a trail of blazing buildings, inundated coastal communities, wrecked roadways and potentially unstable nuclear power plants. But it barely made a dent in the implacably Japanese trait of exhibiting concern for others even in the worst of circumstances.

Not all of them of course, but yeah, I experienced that in Seoul once or twice. (Not ethnic Japanese, just things like drunk Koreans telling me things like "If you were Japanese, I'd kill you.")
Japan has racist jerks too. Every time the DPRK pulls something, there's always a spate of attacks afterwards. The bastards seem to like targeting girls who go to the Korean schools because their uniforms include chima and thus stand out.

Anyway, living in SoDak, I'm starting to wonder if this isn't going to cause Yellowstone to destabilize more. I hope not, if Yellowstone goes I'll most likely have little to no time to get out of here. I live about 500 miles away from it, so maybe, but I doubt I'd make it very far before the pyroclastic floes and everything got here.
I know California will be affected by this, hell all along the ring of fire will be probably, but Yellowstone is a big worry of mine--again just due to proximity.

That's what I did (texted to donate). Main reason being is that these text charges won't be due until the end of April.
I really doubt this will affect Yellowstone.

Maybe not immeadiately, iunno, I guess we'll have to see. Still Yellowstone is going to blow and this just made me think more about it.
Pretty much decided I'm going to donate, at least $10, not much but its something.

It's $10 more than they would otherwise have. $10 can feed several people.

Daistallia 2104 wrote:Koreans are the biggest minority group in Japan, mostly the "Zainichi Koreans" from the occupation period, but also immigrants from the 80s. The two main Zainichi organizations (ROK and DPRK affiliated, of course) run schools that use Korean as the language of instruction, and the girls uniforms are usually the same as for Korea. Most of the attacks were in the 90s, and in '99 most schools allowed girls to wear a different skirt to school and then change.
BTW, Osaka, where I lived 15 of my 19 years in Japan, has the biggest Korean population.
Scientific socks wrote:When people in South Korea can recall the 80 odd years of Japanese oppresioin I think it is slightly understandable. Much better than sea shepard that will always find something to complain about. The people saving the whales will just turn to penguins, polar bears, climate change, kangaroos or whatever else once japan stops. Sea Shepard will always find someone to hate.

The world cannot do much about it... it's nature's way.
