You mean F.
I feel for them. We were without power for 2 days after wind knocked down power lines a few weeks ago.[/quote]
LOL, yes.

She accepted it as a trade off until we got the news about the conditions up north, she's a lot more enthusiastic about it now.

Tokyo is still living in fear of the next great Kanto quake... This just reminded them that when it hits, it's going to be very, very bad.
Sibirsky wrote:Times like these you realize how dependent we are on electricity. I have a gas fired grill out back. And that was the only way to cook. There was no heat though. It wasn't quite as cold as it is in Japan though. Still, it got down to the mid 50s inside.

The little bro has two properties. They've been talking about moving the 100 year old farm house from the small one to the large, but recently decided on selling it and building a new place all done green. I'll mention it to him.

Indeed. And they needed the reminder - it's been too long since the Hanshin quake.

Also, someone just pointed out that today is the anniversary of the great Tokyo Fire Bombing air raid that killed over 100 k.

Worse, much, much worse.
The last time it hit was the Great Kanto Quake, which killed 140,000 (The deadlist quake on record) and leveled Tokyo. Tokyo is much larger than it was then, and while newer buildings have better quake codes, older ones post WWII that were tossed up as quickly as possible to rebuild after the firebombings do not, and there's a lot of them, and a lot of houses like that.
Not to mention as we saw in this quake, once the trainlines go down, there is virtually no way to evacuate the city. When it hits (Because it's a matter of when, not if), the latest estimations I saw call for almost a quarter of a million dead.

Come to think of it... this is not doing Zeno's mental healthy any good whatsoever. Good luck to everyone who has family and friends over in the bad places... Ughhh...[/Ejectsfromthread]

Ugh. My school runs a program for graduates in Morioka and the surrounding areas, we had enough trouble trying to hear from all of them.
Sendai people seem to be able to get word out recently, news of several families have been passing around Japanese American communities in New York. Smaller coastal cities still seem to be relatively devoid of news.

Recent news states that areas are starting to see electricity again and the various social networks are working wonders in terms of getting information out.
The smaller costal areas though... A lot of them are still isolated and even the military (Both the JSDF and US) are having problems getting to them.
