Few hundred?

There's 10,00 CONFIRMED dead in 1 province already, with 3 towns with 70,000 habitants missing of which only 7,500 were rescued.

Kandorith wrote:Vonners, I am watching Japanese news live.

Not the outdated international "news" that for example say that Naoto Kan just spoke to the public, which was over 10 hours ago.

Watching the TBS live feed now. The figure they just gave 2 minutes ago for Miyagi was 10,000 estimated, not CONFIRMED. There has not been time to confirm that many deaths yet. It is highly likely that it will be in the tens of thousands.

And just noticed the forecast for Sendai tomorrow is snow. That won't help. I know there've been requests for warm clothing sent out already.

What I've seen from those officials was the chief of the prefectural police's projection of 10,000+.

And TBS just had an update on the Japanese missing and killed in the NZ quake. (TBS = Tokyo Broadcasting System)

Not at all unheard of. The wiki says they average 15 cm/6 in in March. I remember getting snow in April in Niigata, and that's further south. It's almost the same latitude as where I'm at now in Iowa, and we just had snow a few days ago.

Dang - TBS just had an announcement about foreign residents and tourists. Wasn't listening closely enough to catch all of it, but it sounded like 1600 missing out of 4000.

BTW, if anyone else wants to watch it, here's the live stream: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/tbstv

It's all in Japanese, but the footage is followable.

At least it's not typhoon season and Sendai's too far north for them anyway (watch a freak one spin off and make a liar of me later... :().
