Public debt is nearly 200% of GDP. Japan wasn't doing too well even before the earthquake.

Lol, I stopped studying chemistry in Year 9 and somehow managed to get through the rest without any further formal science education.

Just saw a piece on the local news web site that unit 3 may be stating to meltdown. This is by way of AP
We have two companies of Marines running rampant all over the northern half of this island, and three Army regiments pinned down in the southwestern corner, doing nothing. What the hell is going on?

Monday's not gonna be a pretty sight on the world's share markets, I'd expect. I don't think they'll open the markets in Tokyo, but there's that government debt issue and 120 million rich people who'll be in even less hurry to spend money than usual.

Not that it matters too much while they're busy trying to stop a clump of toxic, highly radioactive material sinking into the ground water.

Bah, physics is just applied maths, chemistry is just applied physics and biology is just applied chemistry.

To become an economist you must have studied maths so, by extension, you've studied all the hard sciences. :)

Maybe, maybe not. Can we possibly be assured that the Japanese people will be fine? There has been plenty of aftershocks since Friday. Well, Japan has been through alot of bad stuff, like the 1923 Earthquake. They really got hurt during World War Two.

Yes, we can be assured that they will be fine.
