Massive earthquake hits Japan

Maybe, maybe not. Can we possibly be assured that the Japanese people will be fine? There has been plenty of aftershocks since Friday. Well, Japan has been through alot of bad stuff, like the 1923 Earthquake. They really got hurt during World War Two.

The worst scenario would be those nuclear reactors completely breaking down and spewing radiation everywhere.

But, aren't the reactors in Japan safer then the reactors in Chernobyl were when the Russian reactors had a meltdown?

It's not just the US and Japan. Search and rescue teams from all over the world are being offered, many of them have only been home a couple of days after the quake in New Zealand.

Well I understand that the whole world is helping. I was just giving an example.

And that was my point. It seems like it takes something of this scale for countries to drop the politics and just work together regardless of economics or political differences.

To me, this is a good thing.

Much safer. Then again, Chernobyl wasn't hit by a tsunami.

Doesn't mean they can't break down. People keep talking about it, but honestly I don't know enough about the situation to understand if it is a rational threat.

The 1995 Kobe earthquake was pretty bad, too. I was stuck in it like my family. Over 6,000 died and we had barely no food supplies for 2 days. Was terrible. Of course, I was too young to remember it (was about 3 months old at the time). My mom said that the government was inefficient, declining offers of aid and taking 2 days to send aid and rescue teams. Many buildings were destroyed (ours not included, thankfully), and we couldn't evacuate because the roads were blocked.

To top it off, we weren't even expecting it. It was meant to hit Tokyo.

Magnitude was about 7.3, I believe.

Yup. If I read right, they hope there's no meltdown.

Watching some CNN it was painful to sea a coal power fire station with huge flames escaping being called a nucleur. So far radiation has increased outside by 8 times the normal amount according to the news. This isnt too bad when you consider floods in Australia (Queensland) caused massive amounts of pollutants to reach the Great Barrier Reef.

The people have already been evacuated due to the small chance and other non-nucleur power stations have actually exploded. I see it as a bit of a non issue.

I still have my heart for Japan. What I hate most right now are people saying that it's karma for Pearl Harbor. Now, I don't want to offend anyone. I am an American, but I have to say that I am ashamed right now to be one. Here's the facebook statuses related to Pearl Harbor

I'd go to Japan to help witch search and rescue. I doubt my degree in drafting and design would help, maybe I could design houses for the homeless.
