Wis. G.O.P Receiving Death Threats. No Call for Civility?

Postby You-Gi-Owe » Thu Mar 10, 2011 12:37 pm

Okay, I'm waiting for the calls for civility....

http://www.wqow.com/Global/story.asp?S=14226468

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an e-mail threatening the lives of some Republican state senators.

DOJ spokesman William Cosh says the agency is investigating threats from several sources.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says all threatening messages have been forwarded to Capitol police.

The majority leader's spokesman, Andrew Welhouse, says the address of the person who sent one of the threatening e-mails was apparent, but police told him not to disclose it.

The e-mail said Fitzgerald and his "Republican dictators" must die because of their actions, presumably referring to GOP senators passing a bill removing most public employees' collective bargaining rights.

Fitzgerald says a protester was arrested this week for trespassing at his Dodge County home after she walked onto his porch and banged on the window.

Those sending the emails should be caught and punished. Those encouraging violence against political leaders should be censured or punished if the calls lead to actual violence.

And if death threads had been issued to the Fourteen, would that even be a YGO thread?

Of course not.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Crowds usually do send death threats. Crowds usually do bring offensive signs and shout offensive shit. Crowds usually do stupid shit. I hate it when commentators try to brand groups of people just because people in masses usually includes a lot of idiots, regardless of the cause. It happens both left and right. It's nothing new and only really got highlighted during the tea party rallies, which now backfires on liberals as it shows crowds that protest tend to have universally offensive messages every now and then.

As far as the question goes. Of course there won't be a focus on it. It's part of the media spin. Only conservatives have the capacity to do stupid and violent shit these days if you are to believe most major news sources, even when it is the other way around. Do I think there should be a focus on it? No, because it is pretty standard for an elected official to receive death threats for whatever. Most of said mail usually goes into the 'spam' category. The entire call for civility thing is a joke regardless as rhetoric that might be construed to be violent does not lead to murderers. Sick people doing sick things lead to murderers. The entire call for civility media element is just an attempt to gain sympathy from the center when in truth they are only verbally castrating themselves. It's not like there is some assassin taking notes every time Keith Olberman put a worst person in the world countdown. If one did, it would be because they were insane to begin with, not because he was brainwashed/misinterpreted whatever message. If offensive speech lead to violence, Michael Savage would have created a mass slaughter in the US. Michael Moore would have inspired a collectivist army by now. I mean, should we trial Alan Grayson for identifying his opponent as a member of the Taliban? No, because it is a stupid PR stunt and anyone with half a brain cell would not take it seriously. Even if someone did and acted violently towards Dan's supporters, I would not blame Grayson for it. I'd tell him that his ad was stupid for many different reasons both political and of core reasoning, but it obviously does not inspire any violent message desiring harm for anyone.

Crowds tend to be stupid. The media is often even dumber. People who defend one side on something as general as crowd behavior while attacking the other is in my opinion far more likely to do something violently stupid than the ones listening to even the worst news sources. Of course, there can be exemption with militia groups and the like. The tea party does not fall into that nor does the unions, but both sure as heck fall into the category of organizations that can create some stupid looking signs and have fringe elements that can do stupid or even violent stuff.

Of course not. Any death threat to the Unions or Unionized Worker is deserved because they area Nazi-Communist-Islamic-Fascist who want to destroy the American way of life. However, the Republicans and Conservative are Yahweh appointed holy men, and to threaten them is to threaten this country and Yahweh himself. :p

I think everyone should be civil; the day public debate leads to death threats is the day America dies. Metaphorically of course.

Didn't Walker admit to thinking about using false protesters to discredit the unions, by having these actors perform violent actions and rioting. Additionally, if I remember correctly a Tea party leader suggested doing the samething to discredit the protests. Therefore, while obviously I believe death threats are terrible how can we logically pinpoint this only on the Union protesters. Maybe, Walker decided to take the fake Koch advice and try to discredit the Unions.

It's 50/50 of either being Scotty doing the Mubarak Shuffle, or some really out of it protestors deciding to go maverick.

You know, I searched for this on the internet for real sources, and all that turned up were some right-wing blogs and Fox News. One must wonder.

But if this is true, I suppose a "call for civility" wouldn't be an awful thing. But it's not as if this is widespread. Fox and the like have been doing everything they can to make these people look horrible, but have been failing every time.
