Er... open meeting laws do not work that way.

True, but the average voter would not know this. The Republicans could easily argue that since the Democrats went MIA for about a month they had no other choice and try to say the Democrats were trying to slow down the already crawling bureaucracy and thus cost the taxpayers more money then necessary. Most voters do not like their money being wasted.

After all, noting that "Not only did Sen Whoever voted to strip rights away from (Insert group here), he did so while violating state law. Do you really want to return a lawbreaker to the state senate?" makes a good argument that is hard to squirm around.

Possibly, though given its a misdemeanor the GOP will likely equate it to a traffic ticket they got while taking care doing what is right. That's of course provided the Dems even remember where their balls are come election time.

The Democrats have Balls?

The Dems didn't really overreach, they have a bad marketing team, and public opinion turned on them. The Republicans, while having more bad ideas, are better at politics.

No, they overreached. Not saying that President Obama and that Congress didn't get a lot done, but they were operating on the assumption that the rest of the nation was with them compleatly instead of more divided and that the 2008 election was not built on a lot of anger at President Bush.

If the Democrats and the unions don't use this as ammunition for the Recall Blitzkrieg then we have truly become the Kingdom of Gilead. Which means I'll be off shoveling nuclear waste.

Federal workers don't have collective bargaining rights, why do state workers? Besides, we're BROKE--people don't like not having massive pensions? Oh well.

And voters don't really need to elect the public officials who pass their laws and decide how their money is spent. I mean, we're BROKE -- people don't like having democracy and home rule? Oh, well.

That's because the Republicans didn't walk out on the taxpayers--they fought on till the bitter end. Nobody was blocking the Dems from re-entering; they could've come back, they had plenty of chances. And they didn't take 'em. Therefore, blame them for what just happened.

Yeah.

This is incredibly idiotic on the part of Walker, but given that he did the exact same shit when he was mayor (or something) of some town or something (strip unionised worker's rights in a 'budget crisis' while, irrc doing some incredibly shady political actions like he's done here) it seemed likely to pass.

The Wisconsin Senate already decided to punish the 14 Senators by fining them for missing work, as only the Senate has the ability to punish its members for such an offense. A spokesperson for the 14 said they would pay the fines.

Even a grade school understanding of the situation would allow you to know that the union had already granted all the financial concessions, and that the opposition was to the requirement that the union sign away their rights to negotiate later. You seem to be lacking that understanding.

Which is true, and worse, mid-way through they pussied out of it. Meaning they went far enough that the right and moderates are pissed, but not far enough that they could hold onto their base. Perfect storm for losing an election.

I mean, if you're going to overreach there's a trick to it, the Republicans are good at it. That is, if you do it, you go all the way and as hard as possible, so that you keep your base fervent for you. That way the moderate position is still to the right of center.
