Aw, Geez- they were doing so well, too. That's enough of a grain of truth to build a huge Credibility Gap around.

The Bundy Bunch don't need a grain of truth to build a Credibility Gap, they'll just go at it blindly and ignore everyone who tells them they're idiots for doing so.

I dunno, the occupation turned into such a complete joke I could see even the likes of Trump opting to just sort of not bring it up and let it work through the courts. By the tail end of the occupation, let's recall that even other whackadoo militia outfits were ordering their members to stand down and not touch the situation with a ten foot pole.

Five FBI agents assigned to the traffic stop told investigators that none of them fired at Finicum's Dodge pickup after it crashed at their roadblock. Oregon investigators, however, concluded that one agent fired twice at the truck, hitting it once in the roof and missing on the second shot.

A state trooper later described to investigators seeing two rifle casings in the area where the agents were posted. Detectives tasked with collecting evidence didn't find the casings, police reports indicate.

FBI aerial surveillance video shows that before the detectives could get there, the FBI agents searched the area with flashlights and then huddled, according to law enforcement sources who have seen the video. The group then broke and one agent appeared to bend over twice and pick up something near where the two shots likely were taken, the sources told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Well, no, it shows what might have been that occurring.

The text you're quoting suggests it is possible this was the case, not that it was conclusively the case.

I'd be interested to hear their reasoning or motive for covering for the guy who fired. Seems like reporting that he had wouldn't have changed anything.

The Oregon Justice Department has officially opened a criminal investigation into Sheriff Palmer's actions, involving at least one of the nine official complaints filed against him. They're being very tight-lipped about details, as is Palmer himself.

An interesting bit of news:

One of the men who provided security for the occupation has been arrested. However, not for the events at Malheur, no.

Scott A. Willingham (47) was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon (a felony) and second-degree disorderly conduct (a misdemeanor) with a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .208 and carrying 230 rounds after telling LEO's that if he wasn't jailed by the end of the day Wednesday he'd "start shooting federal law enforcement officers" by morning.

Willingham calls himself an "unemployed musician" and was one of those who helped Finicum remove the cameras. He stated he wanted to be arrested in Grant County (where Palmer, whom the militia considered friendly, is Sheriff) before the feds arrested him for being involved in the occupation. These two facts have led to rumors that he may be the 26th person indicted, name redacted, since some of the charges listed within the indictment related to removing that camera. That said, there has been no confirmation as such.

He was also, as it happens at home in Nevada towards the end of the standoff, though he returned and publicly offered to help the FBI talk down the four left within (two of whom he considered friends, I'm guessing the husband and wife).

My take? Regardless of whether he is the 26th person named, he's going to prison for a decent while for the threat unless he can get away with a plea to testify against the Malheur folks, and takes it. Sheriff Palmer, even if he survives the investigation, can't do shit for him now, or at the least won't. I mean, then again, with the way this story has gone, he just might and make this all more interesting....

Honestly, even if they weren't charging him for the events during the occupation, they're probably going to throw the book at him now.

There's supposedly at least one more new indictment on the way for more charges on those 26, plus maybe a few others it has been hinted. He can easily become one of those others :P

No kidding. Threatening to start shooting at law enforcement is a pretty surefire way to get saw law enforcement to wreck your shit. I mean, look at the reaction when Dorner flipped his shit in Los Angeles awhile back now.

Hell, that's the sort of thing that if announced here would probably have the mods scrambling to fill out the FBI tip form with as much info as we could compile. All of it in order to get arrested by a "friendly" authority before the feds could "get him," too.

I'm waiting for Grant to just turn him over. If Palmer makes any move to protect him he'll be twice as dead in the water.

I'm surprised CSPOA is so far remaining silent. I wonder if they will mount a defense for their ally in Grant.

Should we start a betting pool on how many minutes into his trial before the first "Contempt of Court" offense? I want minute 4.

He actually behaved well in his first round. He came prepared with notes, is taking his option to counsel with an attorney in private, and apparently successfully represented himself before. He's no expert, but he's also not being nutty about it. He cited his reasoning as not wanting to be censored or held back by a lawyer, as he's already seen Ammon be told to keep quiet.
