As for the state I am actually from? Well, you've got millennia-old history [which of course is being forgotten about].

As for the state I was born in? [Yes, it really is that complicated.] It's basically the entire country's cash cow, and exports pretty much the only thing that people know us for - oil.

But to be honest, all three of the states that I mentioned really suck as hell.

someone smuggle me outta here

Are you from the Philippines or Malaysia? Because Manila is the 4th largest urban area by population. But Beijing is the 4th largest metropolitan area by population, according to Wikipedia. I don't think you live in Beijing unless you're using a VPN and know how to lay low because this site is banned in China. Klang Valley in West Malaysia doesn't even come close. To further complicate matters, the Philippines is divided into provinces, not states. Malaysia, on the other hand, IS divided into states, and Sarawak is Malaysia's principal oil producer and cash cow, although 95% of the profits go to West Malaysia. I can confirm that Sarawak actually sucks.

You've posted in the Chinese Discussion Thread, so you're probably not from Africa or the Middle East, and Germany is too rich to suck, so Europe's out of the question. That leaves the Indian subcontinent and the Asia-Pacific region. I'm guessing you were born in Sarawak and currently live in Manila? Not sure about the state with a millennia-old history. Thailand? Or would that be another Malaysian state? Malacca? Johore?

I’m from Arkansas, and I’d like to say how pleasantly surprising it is to see so many differing political views. I’ve met conservatives, liberals, libertarians, an anarchist, and a communist. It’s quite different from the stereotypical view of Arkansas you see. Don’t get me wrong, there’s ALOT of conservative old folks here to, but it’s just nice to have discussions with people of polar opposites in your state. Makes you think that Arkansas could change for the better someday. Probably a pipe dream, but something to think positively about.

You do know that I'm really tempted to tell them, but I'll let you have the fun, for now :p

I live in Indonesia, so it's provinces. The province that I'm currently live in has the second largest city of the country, where I used to live in its suburbs. The region has a lot of mountains, particularly in the southern area. Some of them are volcanoes, and are popular tourist destinations.
The province is not known as a wealthy one, overall, but still it's pretty developed if compared to Indonesia's eastern regions - indeed, the province itself is a gate to eastern Indonesia.

There are predominant two ethnic groups there, and while one is a part of one of Indonesia's dominant ethnic groups, the people there have their own unique characteristics that differentiate them from members of the same ethnic group that live in neighbouring provinces. One of those is the dialect, which is usually considered as a vulgar and direct version of the otherwise more refined dialects in the other regions. The history of the province itself is rich when it comes to Indonesia's Age of Hinduism and Buddhism, as some major pre-colonial kingdoms of Indonesia are based there.

The province, or rather, some regions within the province are historically known for black magic, that led to some civil disturbances in the 20th century. Even now, the area is still known for some (questionable) supernatural activities, though they are now mostly confined to the jungles and mountains.

People can guess this province

- Never ending holidays and fiestas
- Congestion
- Rain
- The current governor has great posts about announcements of class cancellations and stuff (people from here always know this)
- Malls about 1 hour away from each other (two or three hours if it's congested which is normal)
- Historical significance to the country

I guess that's all that I can think of

I quite like Arkansas. Spent some time in the northern parts of the state visiting formerly estranged family, it is far more scenic than I'd have imagined, and the people aren't just "yokels" or whatever the fuck the dumb caricature is. It is a phenomenal place overall.

Utah:
- People here tend to be nicer and more polite than in other places. I think it's a result of Mormonism, but that culture also spreads to non-Mormons.
- Lots of variance in landscapes. If you want to see a desert, you can, but you can also see a gorgeous mountain summit or a verdant forest.
- Not one single urban hotspot that's way bigger than anywhere else. If you look at neighboring states like Nevada and Idaho, that isn't the case. Or if you look at Wyoming, there's just nobody anywhere and that's no fun.
- The local Republicans here are more moderate than they are elsewhere on stuff like immigration. Our national representatives are typical spineless Republican wimps (except Ben McAdams (D), UT-4), but locally, we have a much more varied dialogue than one might expect given the party composition of our legislature.
- Utah scones. My family always made them and just called them scones, so I was really surprised when I saw what people from other states call "scones," which are basically just triangular biscuits. They're fried and are similar to beignets, but they're made from yeast dough (at least in my family's recipe) and instead of powdered sugar, they're served with honey butter. They're really really good and I highly recommend trying them.

It also has multiple meanings.
Pan hay means "There is bread!" In Spanish and it also alludes to the Eucharistic bread in the Holy Sacrific of the mass because the heart and body of Christ is also the Eucharistic bread.

Panay is named after Pannai which is also the former homeland of the Visayan ethnic group where we were once employed as the guardians of the Strait of Malacca the world's busiest maritime route.

I grew up in Iloilo City. Beautiful city when viewed from the sky.

The Queen of Spain gave us the title "La Muy Noble Ciudad de Iloilo" which translates to "The most loyal and noble", because we inculcate loyalty, faithfulness and nobility to extremes; being the last city to rebel against Spanish rule in the last colony to rebel against Spain.

In 1799, King Carlos IV of Spain added the following title to the official seal of our capital city of San Juan - "Por su constancia, Amor y Fidelidad, es muy Noble u muy Leal esta Ciudad" (translation - " For his Constance, Love and Fidelity, it is very Noble and Very Loyal this City"). He bestowed the capital city this honorary title because of the valor and fidelity of the islanders of Puerto Rico during the last UK. attack on Puerto Rico in 1797. The islanders involvement was crucial in beating off the UK. invasion. Later on a flag was also designed which also shows the official seal. The seal was granted to the island by Isabela I and Ferdinand in 1511.

Indeed, the Cologne Cathedral (some people jokingly say, "Germany's largest station church") is absolutely worth a visit (like lots of other sights in these parts). Also, you guys have an interesting way of celebrating Epiphany - it must be awesome to be around! Here in Germany, it's a tiny bit different.

In that case, the place you live in sounds fairly unique to me. I think, there isn't a single German Landkreis that isn't stereotyped by their neighbors in that manner - either going too fast, or too slow. (Then again, keep the German driving rule in mind: "My speed is always the correct one!")

That's another advantage about NRW. This can't happen in here, for we don't have highways - only insanely long parking lots. ^^

Supposedly traffic was so bad in Paris at one point that people would say, "Shall we walk or do we have time to take the car?"

Yeah, that sounds familiar - it could probably fit into most, if not all larger metropolitan areas.
This being said, I love how the traffic report on radio in NRW can last up until five minutes, with traffic jams shorter than five kilometers already being left out, while it takes less than a minute in Schleswig-Holstein (where some of my favorite vacation destinations are located) even with holiday traffic. An interesting difference between more urban and more rural states. ^^

You're originally from Indonesia, which has an over thousand-year-old history. You now live in India, home to Delhi, the world's fourth-largest urban area. This would make you a Third Culture Kid like me. I think.

Incorrect on all counts [except that first bit] - I've never been to any of those places [OK, I was in Saudi when I wasn't yet born, so... technically?]

Don’t get me wrong, there’s ALOT of conservative old folks here to, but it’s just nice to have discussions with people of polar opposites in your state. Makes you think that Arkansas could change for the better someday. Probably a pipe dream, but something to think positively about.

I reside in Northern AR (although I’m origin from Spain). Conservatism is very strong around these parts. I’m assuming this all depends on where in the state you live too, and my area is big on retirement so there’s that.
