Hey, whatever works best for you, I always say. I just chose to do it quite early (I was a sophomore in college). There was no point in hiding it. My mom has always been very understanding and some of her greatest friends are part of the LGBT and addenda community.

As far as "gay culture" goes, I'm clueless. I'm pretty much straight gay save for the fact that I don't like sports and I'm not into "macho" things like hunting, cars, etc.. I'm more like a heterosexual nerd who happens to be gay.

Meh, the truth is that the gay culture is really not very different from the straight culture. The icing of the cake, is different but the basics are the same.

Meh, biblethumpers are annoying they have an incredibly limited spritually and conception of God. I wouldn't put too much value into their insults, I've had more than enough of my own nasty encounters with them due to the scepticism that is deeply woven into my personality.

I'm suprised I've never come across this "Straight Gay" term since I'm a troper, but I'd say all of my gay friends meet this description ( my clique of friends isn't too friendly to flamey gays). Despite my emphasis on honor, I'm pretty damn nerdy, lol. IDK what it is about my personality but alot of people assume I'm gay or asexual, I guess that's because I'm not all into the machoness.

I'm a teenager in a Catholic family. My father is homophobic, but my mom isn't.

I'd also suggest confronting your family's homophobic comments head-on whenever they're said. You don't have to come out explicitly in order to do so, just point out the errors in what is said.

Not any more of a mental illness than ADHD or Clinical depression. I.E., they're classified as disorders by the psychological community, but they are in no way inherently a sign that the person in question needs to be locked up in a padded room with a straitjacket.

Though understanding is always nice. I strive to get others to reach understanding because acceptance and acknowledgment naturally follow from understanding.

The bible is basically a blank slate onto which anyone can project anything they like. Want to be a violent, insufferable douche? You can justify that with the bible. I'm not entirely sure, which is why I didn't really go into details beyond "tried it".

Still as a trans* person I'm actually lucky in that though I obviously loath and despise my body, I'm actually okay with having sex and being seen. It's not even a relationship either, more of a once a week thing between friends, and I think a big part of the thing is just trust.

But yeah your first time is never amazing and magical. On the other hand, with practice, it certainly can be.
