Chavez was only able to maintain his Bolivarian socialist experiment through an abundance of natural gas and petroleum resources. With the prices of oil now having a detrimental impact on Venezuela and a leader even more incompetent than before, they can't afford anything at this point, which has ruined their economy.

This shows us two things: That runaway spending and attempts at socialism are bad news, and that an economy simply cannot rely on one resource (heres looking at you, Russia.)

It's hard to trade something that became so cheap when it used to bring a lot of money.

Enough to be funny several countries doing the possible and impossible * cough cough USA cough cough * to have oil and a country is selling desperately to have toilet paper

Venezuela needs austerity and free market policies ASAP. Socialism - or social-democracy? idk at this point - turned them in a hellhole pretty fast: 900% inflation (reported by government = way below the reality), -10% GDP growth, terrible healthcare and education, plus a destroyed oil industry.

I actually just finished a rhetorical research paper about the Venezuelan economy for one of my university courses.

It's a complicated situation, but here's the root of the problem: a corrupt, authoritarian government. Presidente Maduro is an overzealous follower of his predecessor, Presidente Chavez, and will not listen to the opposition. He continually denies the country's problems and insists that they will prevail. To keep this short, I will say this: it's time for the Bolivarian regime to topple, and to reinstate freedom in the once prosperous Venezuela (at one point, it was the most prosperous country in South America).

Soon, my research paper will be published and I can share it on here, if anyone is interested in digesting the tip of the iceberg for the economic crises in Venezuela.

It's funny the way you point that out because we already have a populist (possibly Trump's twin) candidate that has good chances in 2018 (presidential elections).

Seems some have mentioned Brazil.

Brazil would love more then anything to have a Brazilian controlled port on the Caribbean sea. So a breakup of Ven. would get them closer. Found out the Brazilian government has given citizens of all the nations that border Brazil two years of legal residency. Most favored are the Venezuelans fleeing to Roraima State which borders Venezuela.

Story on that - http://todayvenezuela.com/2017/02/27/br ... ng-crisis/

So if Ven. did breakup and the people in the following three Ven. states that border Brazil asked to be annexed to Brazil (chances are Brazil would be more then happy to annex them) then you never know but it could happen.
The Ven. states would be Amazonas whose population is just below 200.000. Then Delta Amacuro, the mouth of the Orinoco river, whose population is also less then 200.000. Then the state of Bolivar, which connects both states, with a 1.8 million population. Many of these States have people that speak Portuguese since Brazil is nearby. Not sure how many Brazilians might live there. So all together 3 million people would be added to Brazil if the people in those states agreed.

See map -

Then there is Brazils influence in the 3 Guianas. Many Brazilians moving in.

The population of French Guiana in 2012 was 240.000. Out of that 70.000 were Brazilian.
The population of Surinam in 2012 was 534.000. Out of that 60.000 to 80.000 were Brazilian and 40.000 Chinese.
The population of Guyana in 2012 was 796.000. Out of that, 2006 numbers say 200.000 were Brazilian.

In fact, after the impeachment of the socialist Dilma Roussef, Venezuela froze relations with Brazil so most of the immigrants are legal and become slaves or prostitutes in the extreme north of the country.

On the Guianas there is not much to say, they are quite irrelevant. Quite irrelevant.

Roraima is a little brazilian state, with only 500 thousand people, and it's too far away from big cities. 20 thousand immigrants or more is a big problem for them, especially with the possibility of a civil war in Venezuela. Brazil needs an emergency plan.

For all intended purposes Guyana is under US protection since the big oil companies like Exxon-Mobile which are the main oil players are US companies.

Ven. claims 2/3 of Guyana (the UK. cheated them out of it) and they want to control the oil found off the coast.
7 jun. 2015 - Venezuela's President Nicholas Maduro has issued a decree claiming sovereignty over Guyana's territorial waters in the Atlantic Ocean

So will there be a show down or not, US vs. Ven.

I do not think Brazil wants the US anywhere near the Amazon.

The quicker they collapse the better.

They've been preying on the Dutch colonies ever since we totally humiliated them in the Dutch-Venezuelan Crisis of 1908, and I fear they might try to send troops against our colonies in order to capitalise on anti-colonial (buzzword for commie) ultranationalism. I don't really think some kind of country beneath that of ours could even begin to hope to beat us but I'd see it as a waste of recourses to teach the inferior nations a lesson.

We should probably try to push for privatisation of a large part of their economy in a mixed native-foreign style as to balance things out after the commies have been kicked out of office.

P.S: Don't take middle part seriously pls no h8 <3
