Providence and Port Hope wrote:The Asian continent IS from Istanbul to Vladviostok, but it is divided in to Asia, the Middle East, India, and Siberia.

So:

Asians- China, Korea, Japan, SE Asia.

Arabs and Middle Easterners- Pakistan and west to Istanbul.

Indians- derp.

Siberians- Russia

So, what about the Mongols?

by any rational definition of a continent, there are no separate asian and european continents. continents are not surrounded by imaginary invisible lines. they are surrounded and separated from each other by contiguous bodies of water.

When I speak of Asia, I generally use the definition of Eurasia east of the Urals and the Dardanelles.

When speaking of Asians, I generally mean either people from there, or East/Southeast/Northeast/Central Asians.

Pakistan isn't in the Middle East.

Pretty much the entire Asian continent, minus Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan feel like the definition of Asia to me. The listed exceptions are due to those basins being more closely economically and socially linked with Europe than Asia.

I'm pretty sure the entire Middle East has more to do with Europe than East Asia...

Maybe drawing the line at India would be more useful

I define Asia as the Continentas defined on page one of this thread. Asians = people who live there + people whose recent ancestors lived there.

That ain't how BBC defines Asians. When an Arab, Afghan or Chinaman does something, BBC will say that, but when BBC news says Asian youths did something, they always mean Indian.

Political Correctness gone sane.

East of the Urals, West of the Pacific, North of the Indian ocean....

Or, you know...the Continent of Asia. Fuck this Afroeurasia shit.

I would love to see a few examples of this. Oh wait, no. If this claim is actually true, you should be able to produce every instance of BBC News saying the phrase "Asian youths," and be able to prove they're talking about Indians. Let's not exaggerate, shall we?

EDIT: In addition, I also wanna hear how you define an "Asian"

Asian is "people, places and things of asia". with asia being a continent.

when I use Asian to refer to people I most often mean east Asian--china, korea, japan, and the countries of southeast asia (but not Indonesia Malaysia or Singapore). the rest are south Asians, central Asians, middle easterners, siberians, etc.

Yep, same.

However, the only reason Europe is seen as separate from Asia is that Europeans are the ones who designed this geoscheme.

Any country located in the continent of Asia is, well, Asian. But I wouldn't call all of the people in those countries Asians even though they are. It'd be more race oriented, like Indian or Arab if they weren't something like Chinese or Japanese.

The part of the Afroeurasia supercontinent that lies east east and south of the line composed by the Ural mountains, the Obshchy Syrt, the Volga starting at the Samara Bend, the Kuma-Manych depression, the Azov Sea, the Black Sea, the Bosporus, the Dardanelles - and east of the line starting at the Suez Isthmus down the Red Sea to the Gate of Grief (Bab-el-Mandeb).

An Asian is any inhabitant of Asia.

Guam and North Mariana are both in the AFC and yet considered part of Oceania, considering Australia is in there too really makes the AFC list a bit suspect...
