Iran VS Pakistan proxy war when?

Lord in Heaven were people in charge this dogmatic and IQ-liberated?
Notes: We had all good intentions, reasonable level of ignorance, but we had plenty of hubris. Dogmatic adherence to free market principles led to our inability to adapt a nuanced, balanced approach to what Afghanistan needed. We upended everything: political, psychological, etc. People [Afghans] were in favor of a socialist or communist approach because that's how they remembered things the last time the system worked. There were debates in the cabinet about price controls. But the Afghans would say "yes" to everything in order to keep things moving.

My Gods...

Do Americans realize the Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore?

Do they realize that there was never a ideological struggle with the Soviet Union but a geopolitical one?

Just for a bit of perspective, an article from a fella who worked in one of the "american" universities set up in Iraq noted a professor whose syllabi consisted of John Wayne films and reaganite pop-lit.

No, many don’t. Especially the conservatives. I had a huge argument with my classmates because I asserted that Russia is not currently Communist.

Ugh. I don't know who to support there. One's a state sponsor of terror and the other is a state sponsor of terror. Literally no good guys.

how tf isnt it costing them money?

Not enough people know who Taliban commanders are to follow them on Twitter.
Trump was, by contrast, a prolific user.

Plus the Taliban mostly inflict violence on Afghans, and Western corporate advertisers do not care about the lives of Afghan peasantry.

It's not about that. Intelligence agencies pay off social media companies to keep terror accounts open so they can be monitored.

I also saw video of Talibs at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, yelling at the Pakistani troops in Pashto “You’re next!”

Well apparently the hand that feeds them for the most part has been the U.S. over the past 20 years, and it seems to have worked well for them to this point.

The German Empire sent Lenin on a train to Russia which started the Russian Revolution. Arguably not a good decision for them in the end.

Ah, maybe France joining the protestant princes would have been a better analogy. EDIT: whoa, what am I thinking? It is not.
In any case, the joke is that while the ISI has been bankrolling the afghan taliban it's been fighting its own internal taliban. They don't always get along, they're rather not fond of each other, but if the taliban can get on footing that would make the pashtun irredentism of old feasible weeeell these are fungible relations, you know?
I mean hell, the afghan taliban probably knew that the pakistani taliban was doing to pakistan what they were doing to the afghan state (retreating across the border to reorganise before re-entering) but it wasn't *themselves* doing it, so there was no problem, see?
You know, Germany paying Lenin's train ticket to Russia.
