Well Mao proved that the two aren't mutually exclusive.

A lighthearted reference? That's a suprise, seeing as the left worships him as the saviour of the revolution.

And no, Maoists are and have always been a distinct (although sometimes vocal) minority in the Western radical left, let alone the mainstream left.

I'm pretty far to the left, but all that workers' revolutions get you are the bastards at the top fighting with the other bastards at the top until the biggest bastard of all is in charge, and that's not the person who is going to willingly hand over power to the proletariat. Instead, you're getting a dictatorship for as long as dictators can keep it going.

No one in their right mind wants a worker's revolution. The point is that sometimes it's all you can do in the conditions you find yourself in.

Pretty much.
Always throughout human history, affinity fraud has been used by dictators to seize and maintain their power, by first claiming the allegiance of the people and ascribing to them a common and fundamental interest which all must align to or else be deemed traitors, and then using this to justify an escalating series of repressions.

Liberals are the opposite of Communists.

You cannot be a "Liberal Socialist" but you can be a "Libertarian Socialist".

afaik Communism involves collective non-monetarist ownership of the means of production and that's all I can remember being said on it.
Liberalism economically aligns, broadly, with private ownership...so I guess in that respect at least you're right.

That's fine, but people need to remember that revolutions are bloody, cause enormous drains on resources, get civilians caught in the crossfire, and tend to be notoriously unpredictable.

The question is what would motivate one to committing to such a course.
