We'd still have Karelia, in addition to East Karelia and Kola Peninsula. Social democratic tyranny would've never reached Finland, and we'd be a prospering right-wing democracy.

Yeah, that's Finland. The rest of Europe might not be so well off.

Uh-huh?

Finland has long democratic traditions and we never officially allied ourselves with the nazis.

He's correct both territory and right-wing wise, but about the rest... I personally think we'd have ended finlandized towards Germany.

Stop them? Why would they have to be "stopped"? Finland co-operated with Nazi Germany, what reason would they have to mess with us?

I dunno, The Man in the High Castle is a pretty interesting book.

Fatherland has a similar setting, too.

One of my favorite books! Although not as good of an alternate history as Fatherland.

I honestly can't imagine Nazi Germany and Japan would be able to get on well with each other for very long, and we'd probably end up with another world war.

Horrible. Unless Italy had the most power. Then it would be a glorious transition back into the Roman Empire.
That's just my cultural and traditional bias speaking. It would be horrible either way...
although I do secretly long for the return of the Roman Empire, no matter how communist I am.

I am not.

Yeah, we would've been finlandized, but instead of the Soviets we'd be bowing to the Germans. The fact that you think that Germany would just come to their ally and say "remoove demokrashy nao" shows that you know nothing about Finnish history.

There's also a novel by C.J. Sansom which follows a similar idea called Dominion.

This reminds me of someone who said after Hitler died, that the "liberal Himmler" would have come to power and made it better for the Slavs, Jews, Gypsies, etc.

Obviously the Slavs being sacrificed by Himmler in the name of fucking Odin or some such shit wouldn't have found him liberal.

Is it too late to become Finnish?

Also, I live in the State of Georgia in the US. Best case I believe that we would be a second rate nation compared to the Superpower status of Germany and Japan. Worst case we are run by Germany....

Fun fact: When Hitler asked Mannerheim if the Finnish jew problem was solved yet, Mannerheim said that there is no Jewish problem in Finland. Finland also refused to hand over jews to Nazi Germany (with the exception of three German refugees).

What is wrong with social democracy? Finland is prosperous now, as well as number one in science and math education.

That one I actually doubt. We managed to hold our own on that regard pretty well (only one incident, and that was done by a rogue policeman). There might be incidents (like the RL one) but overall I think that would not have happened.

Economic stagnation and tyranny, the state is a bloated and inefficient bureaucratic morass, success is punished and failure is rewarded.

And number one education system? Yeah, right. Our education system was directly copied from the German Democratic Republic; our system promotes memorization and punishes critical thinking. The only thing that the Finnish education system does well is produce obidient slaves for the social democratic tyranny.
