Like it or not, petitions with more than 10,000 signatures get responded to, and petitions with more than 100,000 signatures get considered for Parliamentary debate.

Of course, they'll "respond" some time in the middle of August with "Whoops, we left already. Never mind, then."

Possibly, but I would expect more than 5k unverified if that is the case. Maybe the map is getting the data using an API that's more up to date than the programmed counter on the petition page.

Seriously though, given how damn quickly this has been getting people signing I'd reckon the system's simply got far too many people visiting the page at once. Bit like how whenever an obscure website makes the front page of Reddit or what have you, it crashes.

If we manage to pass that "17.3 million" number the Brexiteers keep hollering over and over ad anfinitum about and reach the upset number of 20 million, then I will eat my hat and push to give your constituency an Victoria's Cross. Literally.

Do you seriously expect a Tory government to fund a petition that may put a wrench into the gears of their Brexit plan? I don't think so, but we must get it to work, without all the intermittent crashes if possible, for the future of the Union is at stake here, heck, the British people themselves. I pray that when I wake up on the 29th of March, 2019, that I will receive the news of Article 50 being withdrawn in time and this fiasco ended once and for all. Otherwise, I will lose what little faith I had in British democracy surviving after this mess.
