Because all teenagers are lazy and don't pay attention to the world around them, especially not the ones who sign up to march down the street carrying forty pounds of brass.

In theory. In practice, schools are very authoritarian and do not allow students to not do it. You recall there was a national controversy regarding the pledge a decade-ish back?
Regardless, the very fact that it is part of school routine at all means it is, in fact, political. Having the "option" to not participate does not negate the reason it was instituted in the first place. A daily pledge of fealty, particularly one altered to spite an enemy, cannot possibly be anything *except* political.

So how do the school faculty force a student to make the pledge?

Because they can read the news same as anybody else and because they were literally playing against the town where it occurred.
I mean, sure. If they're a team of idiots maybe they wouldn't know it happened.

Though obviously i see why older people say that, and they aren't without reason. I am an anomaly.
That comment you were replying to was a sarcastic mockery of my comment about doubting any teen would check the news on the off-chance that they might offend someone. Most wouldn't. Seems some people are incapable of understanding that lack of interest is not the same as laziness.

But what actions do they actually take in order to force a student to make the pledge?
Detention, restriction of privileges, denial of credit for participation, use your fucking imagination. Were you never in school that I have to spell out everything the school can do?
