It kinda does. People thinking it's religiously motivated is because the only group of people who behead people today (who are widely known anyways) are Muslims. Before it was the French. It's the product of the times. If you can't see past that bias, then I can't help you.

Going crazy and murdering your coworkers is a time-honored tradition in the US.

In fact, Congress just voted to increase the length of the work week and lower pay in order to become more traditional in this regard.

It just won't be the same until they issue firearms to postal workers again.

Our postal service is having budget problems, but the Republicans have introduced a bill in the house to give them obsolete equipment that the military doesn't use as much, like a belt-fed M-60's and 1911 Colt .45 ACPT Pistols. It's called the "Homeland Auxillary Defense and Daycare Center Ventilation Act".

It doesn't sound like this man was an Islamic militant at all. Seems like a case of 'going postal' after being fired from a job.

Well, because we don't really know why he did what he did? Intense religious fervour can be a sign of an untreated mental illness like paranoid schizophrenia. Considering he seemed to have decided to carry out the attack on the spot moments after he was fired and not as planned thing (as one would expect if he was being mentored by ISIS or some other extremist group) does seem to suggest that it was his mental instability, not his religion, that triggered the attack.

As a casual observer and opponent of religion, I'd put my money on mental illness here. Religious nuts tend to be more bombastic about their killings when it's about their religion. Not denying this fellow is a religious nut. But this story, so far as it's been related to us, seems more like a mentally ill man snapping.

You should be putting money on him going postal, and this issue being totally unrelated to religion in a million different ways.

In which case his religion is still relevant. It doesn't matter if he was a lunatic extremist because he was mentally ill the fact of the matter is he was a lunatic extremist. If he posted that god hated abortions then shot an abortion doctor we would acknowledge he was a psycho but we wouldn't be suggesting he wasn't motivated by his religion. Lone wolf attacks by definition occur outside of any kind of command structure and are generally perpetrated by people who are just a little bit crazy.

He was a recent convert to Islam (radical). He chopped a woman's head off. ISIS has recently called for beheadings on western citizens.

Do you not understand the equation here?

Him getting fired just gave him an opportunity to answer the call to a bloodthirsty cult.
For so long, Mankind has been plagued by division. Division by culture, creed, skin color, religion and nationality. These very divisions have been the cause of most human conflicts. But in the age of globalism, we can finally have that chance to implement a world government where all human beings are seen as equals. Isn't that what everyone wants? World peace? I do. You should support that too. It may not end all conflicts, but the reductions of Man on Man violence will be at an all time low when the entire planet gets administered by one governing body.

Well, again, if this was a premeditated attack brought on by his religion, we would expect it to have been planned. The fact that he tried to drive away from the site after being fired, crashed his car on the way out, then came back to the building suggests that being fired may have triggered a psychotic break with reality or something similar. If that's the case, then his religion really has nothing to do with it - the intense religiosity was a symptom of the untreated/undiagnosed mental illness that caused the attack, not the other way around. Blaming the attack on him being a Muslim is missing the point entirely.

Lone wolf attacks tend to be done by people who are dangerously mentally ill, we don't pretend they don't have motivations.

Just face it, muslims are responsible for most of the world's violence. It is not, nor has it ever been, a "religion of peace". From the forced conversion of North Africans in the Middle Ages, to Iran, to 9/11, and finally, this. They have no respect for basic human rights as shown in every muslim controlled country. Some such as Indonesia even force non-muslims to be tried according to their excessively harsh sharia law. They have also protested for violence against anyone that denies that they're peaceful.

I suppose I'm looking at it as mental illness being the primary cause with other motivations being secondary and mostly irrelevant to the man's actions, rather than mental illness being an explosive component of a two-part bomb.

Well, ideological extremism has been associated with mental illness.

And there we have the dichotomy. Either the fact he wasMuslim was irrelevant or you're blaming Islam. It's an insane standard we don't apply anywhere else.

Because it's as exactly as relevant as the French having a culture of beheading people?

I mean, this was my proposal: if you thought this guy beheaded the woman because of Islam, 200 years ago you would've taught a French guy beheading someone was because they're French. If you believe Islam was a motivation for the beheading, then you also believed it was the French culture that promotes guillotining people were you to live 200 years ago. That guy disagreed, presumably because he never studied history, so I argued back. I'm just saying, you can't have your cake and eat it too. And this isn't a false equivalence either. The French did beheaded anyone who doesn't agree with them.

Today, anyone who thinks a French guy beheading anyone is because they're French or because of the French culture would be utterly silly. No, instead, if they are Muslim, it must be because of Islam. So, accusing Islam as a motivation of a Muslim beheading someone is a product of the times.

I never said I'm offended or that it's baseless to do this. I just pointed out that it's biased, but biases, like broken clocks, can be right twice a day. In fact, it seems like it's you and that other guy who is offended by me saying this. Which is odd.

If a French guy said that America is horrible to France and it's great when french people cut folks heads off and America would soon be punished for it's treatment of the French then cut someone's head off nobody would be silly enough to suggest that the belief his nationality and his warped view on it were immaterial.
