I lie not really as a "social mechanism"... more because it amuses me. That makes me sound like a complete jackass, but like I said, they tend to be "playful" lies, in which the deception is revealed immediately (or almost immediately) if the lie is bought. For example, if you ask my coworkers how old I am, you'd get answers ranging from 24 (correct) to 35-36(ish). Also, I have more or less kids, depending on who you're asking. Good times.
