Their website is atrocious to use. Nobody goes to the Toys R Us website to buy anything. Especially when the Amazon website is so user friendly.

OK, I should have looked at what website it was; mistake there officially admitted! But it's not like that's the only article I've read. Yeah, it turned out to be a defintiely biased disability rights advocacy website that happened to be owned by the same people as...something, hard to tell what exactly. Should have checked before using that article But a good point is a good point, regardless. Between ethos, pathos, and logos arguments, logos ones work the best on me, not ethos. And I can redeem myself.

Regardless, I've read a lot more articles saying something along the lines of the same thing - at the most extreme, Autism Speaks is a genocidal hate group against autistics, not a charity for autistics, and at the least extreme, it's irresponsible. My point of view leans towards the more extreme side, and if Toys R Us supports Autism Speaks that much, I will have no sympathy. And it's not like I've never seen the opposing side - I'm more rational than that.

But I'll start over the whole argument anyway. And instead of rushed article posting, I'll be more careful this time. So this is why I disapprove of Autism Speaks and by extension Toys R Us.

As the Wikipedia (AKA reputable website) articles I posted clearly state with citations all over the place, Autism Speaks has been accused of hateful or fearmongering rhetoric for reasons I absolutely understand. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_Speaks#Rhetoric_used, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_rights_movement#Autism_is_not_a_disorder) Autism Speaks is obviously looking to "cure" it, despite it arguably being less similar "to curing cancer but instead to the antiquated notion of curing left-handedness". (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_rights_movement#Notion_of_"curing"_autism_is_offensive) A lot of autistics like having autism. The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network is probably the most significant autism rights advocacy group in the world and they're obviously compased of autistics, and they write articles, too. (http://asancentralohio.blogspot.com/2009/08/why-autism-speaks-does-not-speak-for-us.html - 2009 is a little old, but it's not like Autism Speaks was suddenly taken over by neurodiversity advocates in less than a decade.) In fact, the autistic community is pretty divided on it. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociologi ... _of_autism) Autism affects how the brain develops. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_sp ... physiology) So it's unreasonable to think an already-developed brain capable of making the choice could be "cured". But it gets worse. Autism Speaks wants prevention. (https://www.autismspeaks.org/site-wide/ ... prevention) Since autism starts pretty early (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_spectrum), preventing it would logically need to either be through abortion or through avoiding potential environmental markers. Abortion is murder, murder against a certain genetic group is genocide. Said Autism Self-Advocacy Network has argued that this means abortion due to the heavy concentration on genetic markers. And Toys R Us just so happens to support them...

That's the only reason I can think of as to why you would be so adverse to the notion of curing autism...
