I'm really hoping they have a huge liquidation sale so I can get a Switch for cheap. Like, if they could knock it down to $50, that would be grand.

They got killed by the int3rnet which is sort of strange as they had an early web presence. It just never went anywhere.

Their website is atrocious to use. Nobody goes to the Toys R Us website to buy anything. Especially when the Amazon website is so user friendly.

There was a very nostalgic commercial over the Christmas holiday that - to me - seemed to be saying that no matter what happens we'll always be Toys R Us kids. Maybe I was reading too much into the commercial.

A really freaking big one, everywhere. They in their time put small local stores out of business.

Exactly the point. First doesn't always mean best.

Really? I had no idea. It seems you'll have competition, though. There's, like, six other people in this thread, alone, who are aiming for that, too.

Four of those six people are me.

I wouldn't call Toys R Us "important"

Besides, they're looking to draw this out as long as they can. It could be upwards of two months - I've heard - until all Toys R Us stores have finally died or been - they hope - sold off to buyers.

At the Lego Store.

If you want any toy other than Lego, you will be exterminated. EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Yes, I do have some Lego Daleks on my desk, why do you ask?

I am almost certain these Daleks are Mega Bloks, not Legos.

OK, bear with me here. One small mistake, but I think I can be more convincing.

OK, I should have looked at what website it was; mistake there officially admitted! But it's not like that's the only article I've read. Yeah, it turned out to be a defintiely biased disability rights advocacy website that happened to be owned by the same people as...something, hard to tell what exactly. Should have checked before using that article But a good point is a good point, regardless. Between ethos, pathos, and logos arguments, logos ones work the best on me, not ethos. And I can redeem myself.

Regardless, I've read a lot more articles saying something along the lines of the same thing - at the most extreme, Autism Speaks is a genocidal hate group against autistics, not a charity for autistics, and at the least extreme, it's irresponsible. My point of view leans towards the more extreme side, and if Toys R Us supports Autism Speaks that much, I will have no sympathy. And it's not like I've never seen the opposing side - I'm more rational than that.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_Speaks#Controversies
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_rights_movement

But I'll start over the whole argument anyway. And instead of rushed article posting, I'll be more careful this time. So this is why I disapprove of Autism Speaks and by extension Toys R Us.

As the Wikipedia (AKA reputable website) articles I posted clearly state with citations all over the place, Autism Speaks has been accused of hateful or fearmongering rhetoric for reasons I absolutely understand. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_Speaks#Rhetoric_used, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_rights_movement#Autism_is_not_a_disorder) Autism Speaks is obviously looking to "cure" it, despite it arguably being less similar "to curing cancer but instead to the antiquated notion of curing left-handedness". (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_rights_movement#Notion_of_"curing"_autism_is_offensive) A lot of autistics like having autism. The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network is probably the most significant autism rights advocacy group in the world and they're obviously compased of autistics, and they write articles, too. (http://asancentralohio.blogspot.com/2009/08/why-autism-speaks-does-not-speak-for-us.html - 2009 is a little old, but it's not like Autism Speaks was suddenly taken over by neurodiversity advocates in less than a decade.) In fact, the autistic community is pretty divided on it. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociologi ... _of_autism) Autism affects how the brain develops. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_sp ... physiology) So it's unreasonable to think an already-developed brain capable of making the choice could be "cured". And Autism Speaks wants to end autism anyway.

But it gets worse. Autism Speaks wants prevention. (https://www.autismspeaks.org/site-wide/ ... prevention) Since autism starts pretty early (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_spectrum), preventing it would logically need to either be through abortion or through avoiding potential environmental markers. Abortion is murder, murder against a certain genetic group is genocide. Said Autism Self-Advocacy Network has argued that this means abortion due to the heavy concentration on genetic markers. (http://autisticadvocacy.tumblr.com/post ... m-confused - Yeah, it's a Tumblr post, but it's a Tumblr post by a reputable organization.)

And Toys R Us just so happens to support them...

Do you happen to be anywhere on the autism spectrum?
That's the only reason I can think of as to why you would be so adverse to the notion of curing autism...

There are LEGO Daleks. They made a Dr. Who pack for the LEGO Dimensions game. Came with the Dr, a Dalek(used as a vehicle in the game), a Cyberman, and the TARDIS. He could've also built them from scratch.

Yes, the sause is bad, but Autism Speaks is a shit organization.

You can't cure Autism.

You can't cure cancer either, so why bother donating money to organizations who research it?

Because Autism isn't that life-limiting compared to cancer?

Autism can be fatal, but autism isn't the topic of this thread, toys R no longer us, is.

Can be, aye.

But yeah, bit sad that such a classic name has gone out of business. Don't remember ever going to their stores personally though. Might need to make a trip if they've got games consoles going cheap. :p

Actually, yes, I have been that lucky. I am on the spectrum, and I specifically have Asperger Syndrome. But either way, even if it can be cured without murder abortion, I feel it’s unethical and dangerous to try to prevent or cure it.
