The Japanese-American internment was due to the war on Japan. Political motives.

Namely; "these people are of Japanese descent... They may fight for Japan".

As for Jesse Owens, that was most likely due to the fact that the southern Democrats were racists, and he didn't want to upset them.

One of the main reasons he didn't do much about lynching.

And this is news... how? When? Really people? I thought this was common knowledge...

Gandhi was a bit of a dick. That doesn't automatically make the principle he represents wrong.

I believe I saw some writings (Can't remember when...) from Lincoln, where he said his views changed a lot during the war. He also spoke much more about racial equality after the war than before the war.

Yep. He wanted to deport slaves back to Africa, but as time went on, that kind of went away. He was probably still a bit old-timey compared to us, but he was a good man nonetheless. And the same can be said for Gandhi.

No, he didn't, because the propaganda against the Japanese was much stronger than the propaganda against the Germans and Italians.

And there were way too many German-Americans to intern.

Of course he cared about the Southern racists. If he lost their support, then his hold on his party would be weakened greatly. Eleanor Roosevelt even said that he was unable to do anything about lynching due to the southern Democrats.

The Civil War didn't end on April 9th. Not completely. Lincoln was shot on the 14th (not killed, shot, as he died in the wee hours of the 15th, actually). In that time, from what I understand, he gave 1 speech on racial equality (of sorts). It wasn't actually on the races being equal, but rather on enfranchisement of blacks. Not quite the same thing, as I can believe someone to be legally equal to me, but inferior. The same goes with races/religions. So he didn't "spoke [sic] much more about racial equality after the war than before the war".

Well, that's what all the links say, yes. I'm more fond to the debates on USSR and other North-European nations :I

Yes, but it would have been easy enough to intern recent immigrants.

Of course he cared about the Southern racists. If he lost their support, then his hold on his party would be weakened greatly. Eleanor Roosevelt even said that he was unable to do anything about lynching due to the southern Democrats.

Eleanor was the one pushed him to do something about lynching.

1) The government. However, public opinion in America against Japan was also much stronger than opinion against Germany. Mainly because the war followed a decade of deteriorating American and Japanese relations, whereas the war between Britain and Germany was, for the American public, unexpected.

2) And the logic for not interning the others?

3) And he didn't (and she understood) because of the southern Democrats.

It is almost universally felt that when we call a country democratic we are praising it; consequently, the defenders of every kind of regime claim that it is a democracy, and fear that they might have to stop using the word if it were tied down to any one meaning.
