Goddamit. I promise, I tried. I really did.

I went to Occupy Columbus this morning, kind of milled about, looked at signs, stuff like that. The "Call and Repeat" style is wildly creepy. (Disclaimer: I hated sing-a-longs when I was a kid)Some guys started accosting me when I wasn't doing it, and I asked them what difference it made. They started calling me anti-social, and not doing my fair share. I didn't want to pick a fight, so I bailed on that scene. It was not nice.

Apparently, there was also a lot of fretting about agents provocateurs. (including a weird conspiracy theory that the protest had actually been called by some sort of double agent, because it was announced and organized by someone other than the Columbus General Assembly Folks). The worry about agents provocateurs really does rub me the wrong way.The tea party has the same delusional fixation: Nobody who agrees with them can possibly be capable of anything unpleasant. Not at all. It just seems like a convenient way to fob off responsibility, and score points against people you don't like.

In short: I hate this movement almost as much as I hate the tea party. It's only because the teabaggers costumes are dumber that I hate them more.

Those are pretty much dead stateside, I haven't seen a local farmers market in 10 years.

They are everywhere, the only question is whether its worth it to pay their prices.

In Columbus there's a farmers market at the North Market on Saturdays, on Pearl downtown on Wednesdays, in Clintonville on Sundays. In Cleveland there's one up at Westside Market. In Canton there's one a week. I remember routinely buying from one in DC, in Foggy Bottom for pretty much all of my groceries...

At least in Ohio they seem to be thriving.

While I have to travel for interesting scenery and decent skiing, otherwise its alright. Good food, great beer, good music, very low cost of living, sports teams who specialize in ripping out your heart and putting it on display...

Oh, Canton Farmers Market

There's one right down the street every week here in Ohio, and there was one in my hometown in upstate New York.

It's not an argument that's being made, so much as poking fun at the protesters.

It's why I never worry about hypocrisy. You can be a hypocrite and still be right--although, in this case, the protesters aren't.

i just found out about a website called firedoglake.com
i don't know if its been mentioned in this thread yet. but it might be of some interest to it. in case anyone else hasn't yet.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.
