That's not how I was raised
Also, even if that were the case, why would God even give people the ability to kill people or not follow God? It'd be much simpler that way instead of chucking innocent people into Hell

So you don’t want free will I gather? Might as well become a robot for science at this point

And how you were raised doesn’t really matter here. The facts are the facts

If it made us unable to harm others, yes I wouldn't mind having no "free will"And how you were raised doesn’t really matter here. The facts are the facts
Your facts aren't/weren't my facts

I went to a Christian private school for most of my life. If they wanted me to believe something else, they would've done that
You do also know there isn't one interpretation of the Bible, right?

Yes I do but “you can be an evil man, kill, rape, and torture, however since you think god exists, you’ll go to heaven.” Is not one I’m aware of

Oh I had that queued up as another issue that needed clarification. A lot of vagueness in this thread.Jolthig wrote:It's not a matter of which god is merciful, but the question should be, what is mercy?

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying sin as a concept is stupid. People who don't believe in God and people who murder shouldn't both go to Hell just because they're both "sins". And also that people also shouldn't be suffering at all, if God was supposed to be merciful. If God wanted to punish somebody that did something objectively bad, such as rape, torture and murder, that's not really an issue to me. But the fact that someone who did nothing wrong aside from not believing in God should be punished for it, that's where I draw the line. If the God I'm supposed to believe in allows horrible things to happen but tries to save face by saying "well, free will", then that's not one I want to believe in

God is not some cosmic vending machine that can give you or stop something at your whim, it is us who should do what He wants.
Let's not pretend that there are people who have done nothing wrong. Everybody has insulted other people, some more than others, and some have indeed contributed to the death or mental sufferring of other people. Is this alone not worthy of a hellish experience of the afterlife? When someone insults somebody else on the internet you don't know in what place they are.

Could you elaborate, depending on how you answer, I might agree with you.Unogonduria wrote:No. From sufferring you can get very valuable experience that you wouldn't truly grasp otherwise.
If he’s really all-powerful then he can do whatever he wants. As Formosa said, there are hundreds of religions saying they are doing God’s or multiple deities’ will, so yeah, that’s not really efficient.[/quote]Unogonduria wrote:God is not some cosmic vending machine that can give you or stop something at your whim, it is us who should do what He wants.
I’m not thinking everyone is righteous, I’m just not sure eternal suffering is justified for every crime.Unogonduria wrote:Let's not pretend that there are people who have done nothing wrong.
Absolutely not worthy of eternal suffering, if hell is temporary, then sure, but if it’s just a painful and everlasting experience without hierarchy, then God is either cruel or a perfectionist. God could have just created humans perfect and uncorruptible if he didn’t want them to “sin”. He could also have made it so that every human knows what His law is.Unogonduria wrote:Everybody has insulted other people, some more than others, and some have indeed contributed to the death or mental suffering of other people. Try saying this to someone who experienced assaultGod is not some cosmic vending machine that can give you or stop something at your whim, it is us who should do what He wants.
God supposedly has the ability to stop suffering and yet chooses not to. If he can't do something, then he's not as powerful as people think he is. And how are we supposed to know what he wants? Based on my experience, he's not a very good communicatorLet's not pretend that there are people who have done nothing wrong. So someone who insulted somebody one time deserves to suffer for all eternity along with people who committed much worse crimes? Because I dunno about you, but that should not be the case. You would think a god that is supposed to be merciful wouldn't do that
