If Trump ends up indirectly abolishing student loan debt after Biden repeatedly promised to but never actually did it, I'm going to laugh so much...

too bad he has no more budget room left unless he stops giving schools grants and such which would go against the purpose

You can work them off in one of Musk's factories.

Without OSHA, it might actually cost an arm and a leg.

Canada-makes-deal-with-trump-by-agreeing-to-do-something-they-were-already-doing

Donald Trump has seemingly managed to negotiate a deal with Canada that had already been agreed last year under Biden’s presidency.

On Feb 1, President Trump announced he would be imposing 25 per cent trade tariffs on imports from the US’s northerly neighbour.

Canada then responded by saying it would hit back with its own tariffs

But two days later, Canadian president Justin Trudeau announced he had reached an agreement with Trump to have the tariffs postponed for 30 days.

In a statement, Trudeau said this was thanks to Canada implementing a $1.3bn border plan, writing: “I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl.”

But it turns out this exact agreement had been negotiated back in December under the Biden administration. So effectively Canada managed to make a deal with Trump by agreeing to do something they were already doing.

What a dumb fuck Trump is.

“In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl, and money laundering“

I think this part was in addition to the deal that had already been negotiated under Biden.

He's in for 4 years but might have only 2 years to really shape policy. They can endure things being done a bit differently temporarily, especially if his first term wasn't the end of the world. More countries than just the US are souring on the policies and concept of free trade. History has shown it largely doesn't work at delivering what is promised. Only the poorer more developing countries might get real benefit.

Free trade is effectively just a game of racing to the bottom. Companies pick a poor country to produce in, as soon as the country they made rich gets too expensive they leave and go back home to ironically make the country they left and made poorer rich again if there is no cheaper alternative.

The real superior model is to simply have every country be merchantilist if the expectation is that the ruthless pursuit of self interest is normalized.

Who else would tech bro crypto President Musk discuss things with?

The Lone Alliance wrote:The President arrested everyone with a Tattoo in the country, crime magically evaporated. It was really that simple. Of course civil rights groups were kind of mad that he preemptively arrested gang members before they even committed a crime but the people love him.

Five COOL facts about the gang crackdown

1. Criticizing the government has a weird correlation with being part of a violent gang! Who’d’ve thunk?
2. Scientists have found that you can get rid of bothersome neighbors for a decade, if not permanently, by reporting them for gang activity. How fun!
3. The estimated number of gangsters increases as the number of suspected gangsters imprisoned approaches the previous estimate, meaning the government will never not need to carry out mass arrests.
4. According to the government, the murder rate has been exactly zero for a couple years; however, the state of exception to be lifted because conditions are too dangerous, but it will end some time in the future. I sure hope that day comes eventually.
5. El Salvador is still a totally democratic country, and if journalists spread fake news contradicting that fact, they will suffer from a mysterious medical condition whose symptoms appear suspiciously similar to being beaten and killed by police

Bonus fact: Bukele has previously expressed a desire to punish emigrants for economic reasons, which is weird because Central American countries actually benefit a lot from remittances. Not to imply that this is at all connected with the scheme to deport migrants to El Salvador.

I mean, this is how popular dictatorships work. They promise something good if the population consents to giving up their rights for a permanent state of exception, they start delivering on it, but once they’ve secured total institutional power, they just stop delivering on promises and refuse to restore human rights. Then you get decades of decay until the dictator cedes power, but by that point, the country is a shithole, so the next demagogue can come around and promise to fix everything fundamentally caused by the previous dictatorship.

Who needs a few measly dollars in remittances when you can get paid millions and millions to take in American citizens?

That's practically nothing. Canada is doing pretty much what they said they'd do in December 2024. It doesn't change much, they're just shifting around the funds they had already allocated and appointing a few people to positions that honestly won't do much, considering Canada made up just about 0.2% of US fentanyl seizures in the 2024 fiscal year.

Oklahoma-One of the worst states in the US! And I know from living there for 20 years! With an incompetent State Legislature and Governor, an awful cabinet, and a State Superintendent for Education that's the wet dream of ultra-conservative christians! (At least we're better than Mississippi, and we have Braums too)

STATS ARE CANON And alarmingly accurate to how Oklahoma is in real life.

So, sit back, and enjoy! (And don't go onto adult sites, we're gonna ban em real soon)

So Dems are threatening a full shutdown but I don't see how that will do anything given President Elon just does whatever the fuck he wants.

Oh, and Reddit banned r/Whitepeopletwitter for being the first sub to post info on Elon's duplicitous diaper diehards, leading him to call out the sub on Twitter.

Or because they commit a crime that personally offends them or could make the public angry with them, like multi-million call of tax evasion, that's a pretty good way to get sent to the chair over there.

I think the Democrats are doing it for the right reason; this is what their voters expect of them. Will that change anything? Probably not much other than stalling cabinet appointments. It may also run out the clock on Elon's special employment status, triggering yet another constitutional crisis when he's still there afterwards.

Why is every single new government position called "Czar" now? Like, just who decided that we're naming government offices after the rulers of russia? It just seems dishonest and oblivious.
