But the fact that it existed at one point over literally the entire planet - NOWHERE was spared this - is the fault of the West, specifically the fault of their religious institutions and *ahem* colonialism.

Islam is also colonial. Arabs don't get a pass for colonialism just because they are brown.

It is true that both Christianity and Islam have been complicit in imperialistic regimes. They have also been embraced by many non-European and non-Arab peoples who have integrated their religion into their own cultural traditions. But that is more of a subject for the religion threads, or even the Israel-Palestine thread.

Because this narrative was specifically informed by how the Victorians understood homosexuality, as a sort of disease or contagion which "spread." in the Islamic world, homosexuality was something that you did, not something that you were. There was no obsession that homosexuality would bring around a great decline or moral degeneration, even if it was seen as a moral failing. In East and Southeast Asia, where no such moral or legal prohibition against homosexuality existed either, these narratives were also imported.

Vexillology "laws" are goofy and largely fake but I agree with this, it's such a busy design, none of it flows well. I always liked the nine-stripe pride flag that Gilbert Baker made in 2017, with the lavender stripe he added representing diversity. It suits this purpose better than the progress flag imo, the latter just looks like a bunch of different concepts messily stitched together.
