Hot take: Kaiserist Germany should have been allowed to win the Great War. Imagine a world where Hitler stayed in the German Imperial Army and never rose above sergeant.

Germany could have won WW1 if they hadn't been idiots who rampaged through Belgium and in an attempt to circumvent French defenses. The Central Powers kicked ass in Eastern Europe, all Germany had to do in the west was hold the line and they could have eventually come to a conditional peace with France. But instead they violated Belgium's neutrality and you can't have those violations of neutral countries, otherwise no one would ever be neutral again.

Granted, the internet is also the reason why we are even aware of each other's existence, which might be considered to be a somewhat positive side effect.

Also there is this little thing about the Cold War's space race about computers originally being way too big for space ships, so scientists and engineers worked real hard to make computers significantly more compact and lighter without sacrificing computational power. It's why we have pretty powerful and multifunctional handheld computers these days, more commonly known as 'smartphones'.
