We'll have to burn some of them to heat our homes. We'll use others as improvised weapons to throw at the bank's bailiffs when they come to repossess our homes. Last of all we'll use the murder of the economy to turn our diary account of Brexaggedon into a horcrux; we'll then be able to return by stealing the life-energy of history students - they weren't using it for anything useful anyway.

I am fully on-board for this FalloutxPotterverse crossover.

Post-Brexit diaries

30th of March 2019
Much uncertainty awaits us. Britain automatically left the European Union this night. All external communication has blacked out. Westminster has experienced radio silence since midnight. Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg were last seen in Scapa Flow boarding a submarine, Nigel Farage took a helicopter across the channel to reason in Brussel, but rumour has it he never arrived in Charleroi. There is much uncertainty.

3rd of June 2019
The bank came by today with a van of burly blokes to repossess our home and 7 others in our street, even though we paid off our mortgage 4 years ago at a different bank. The paperwork seems in order, but what judge is there to go to? We pay our taxes to a different motor gang every month, and this reposession will give some safety. In return for protection and being allowed to remain living in our own home, we are just supposed to farm barley in our garden and live in servitude. There are some clauses about manual labour, but I am sure those will never be implemented.

14th of January 2020
Apparently, the son of some banker’s assistant in York didn’t take off his cap while passing the cousin of a hedge fund manager of higher rank and class. The hedge fund manager apparently aquiered the Bank of Scotland last week, which through a network of contracts owns the bank which owns my home. My family is supposed to deliver and support one soldier to go to York and teach that banker a lesson. Since my leg got amputated after cutting it on brambles in the garden, it will be my 17-year-old son going to war. I just wish I could go in this place. May the Cardiff Plague take whomever brought this scourge upon us.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Wow! That's a bad suggestion. If I remember my history, attempting to starve Ireland into submission didn't exactly go down well the first time...

Didn't I read that the Irish Famine led to an increase in internal tensions and political instability?

I can't think of a better way to make Ireland dig their heels in (and that's before you add a 24-hour news cycle, constant internet coverage and international regulatory bodies to the mix).

As a Tory MP both are pretty much given. I was just wondering what was the greater factor here. Ignorance, sociopathy or at an outside chance brain worms.

That is an unnecessary smear. Its not sociopathy to inflict harm on a somewhat hostile nation and the question was not out of ignorance. The idea that Tories are some psychopathic pack of toffs is really very inaccurate, just like not all Labour MPs are rabid clueless socialists who would privatise everything.

I mean that's part of it, undeniably. However being partly Welsh and Gaelic Scots myself I make a few exceptions.

Imagine thinking the British empire is or was good or desirable in this day and age. Once you get your head round that idea, it's slightly easier to underatand the rest.

True words. The judge will throw the book at you. Do you want to be responsible for dragging Britannia back into the era of corporal punishment?

It has been pretty remarkable how genuinely flabberagasted Brexiteers seem to have been by the discovery that Ireland is behaving as..you know, an independent nation and member of the EU, rather than just quietly sitting by the phone awaiting instructions from Westminster.

Though granted, given the age demographics, it's entirely possible that a significant number of Brexiteers have forgotten that Ireland is independent now.
