Iran Protests

Postby Morgantown West Virginia » Sat Dec 30, 2017 7:13 am

Currently, protests are spreading throughout Iran against the government led by President Hassan Rouhani. Counter-protests in support of the government have also flared up led by "hard-liners".

I have a pretty optimistic view about this one. the last time something of this caliber happened in Iran it was the 2011 elections, and that was just the upper-lower and middle class talking. this time, it's more than that. the poor budget policies and the fact Iran is overall tired of the theocracy might make it that reforms, or dare I say it even a change, might occur.

Idk, it seems more like the Persian uprising, what with the debacle with the Kurds (another persian ethnicity) a few months back.

Could this be another 1979 or something? If it is then, God willing, the Clerics are out and the Reformists are in.

After the 1979 Revolution that saw the fall of the Shah, Persagonia has re-emerged itself from the ashes of Iran. Persagonia has proven herself to be the dominant secular and democratic power in the Middle East, both politically and economically.

might we be lucky enough to get the National Front to stay this time? Idk, the Transition government (and Bani Sadr's era, if you ignore his piss-poor policies where the war were concerned) were pretty cool.
it was all cool, until the fucking Clerics hijacked it.

Down with Islamists, bring back Anglo-Persian Oil Company. We have a budget deficit to fix.

Though tbh I do hope they fall. Iran has been royally fucked by losing their monarchy. Not that the monarchy was the cause of Iran's relative lack of woes, but the theocratic government is a clusterfuck. Was much better when it was Soviet influenced than American tbh.

And just when Iran's foreign policy has had such a succesful year...guess that the situation at home will always trump the situation abroad.
O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

The Shah is an autocrat and the fundamentalist are a crazy Islamic bunch. I don't support both of them. Rather have this nation replace Iran though.

Now, this will be interesting. To see if Trump will actually do something, or just bark, which is about as good as standing around with his hands in his pockets like Obama did.

Angrier rebels tend to be more socialist. Their socialism is proportionate with their anger.

I get that I come out somewhat strong on this issue, but Ali is not exactly a stranger to protests and we kind of have a mode of operation nailed down for that. He's not worried about a sternly written letter from the UN in regards to his conduct.

I dislike it as well, but I expect it won't flare up until a full fledged rebellion and just end with the typical repressions.
