How to describe high school crushes...

Postby LimaUniformNovemberAlpha » Thu Dec 28, 2017 7:40 am

When describing crushes one recalls from one's high school years, it's easy to fall into the trap of just saying "high school crush." However, if you work with kids, this isn't a good idea, as it could get you mistaken for a pedophile.

However, if you said "classmate," you could be mistaken for a homosexual, and "female classmate" may or may not be better when it comes across as a suspiciously specific denial. Anyone have any ideas of ways to describe this that are neither gender-neutral nor age-neutral?

How do we know this? Because the first step toward Communism is Socialism, and none of the aforementioned are even remotely Socialist in any way, shape, or form.

Just say, "High school crush." Boom, thread solved. If someone mistakes you for a pedophile... somehow, just tell them you aren't.

When you say high school crush, everyone assumes you mean "the girl I had a crush on when I was in high school" not "the girl I have a crush on who is currently in high school".

cool is the thread over now or did you want to blog more

It is called a "crush" because the vast majority of the time- it is one sided, where one person thinks they like someone but the target of their affections doesn't return their feelings or might not even be very aware of their existence. Hence, someone in that situation gets "crushed" inevitably when they get rejected or have no choice but to move on.

“I had a crush on a boy in high school. He was intelligent, kind, and shy. I knew him since middle school. I wanted to ask him out to prom but got tongue-tied at the last minute. I walked to Spanish class wanting to cry. I later pulled through it, and we’re friends on Steam. Need to see if he’ll play CK2 with me sometime soon.”

That’s how you describe a high school crush.

2. "Person I had an old crush on" seems to work fine. Even though I think pretty much everyone knows what the term "High school crush" means...
