Arcade Fire

Postby The Jade Clan » Fri Mar 04, 2011 10:13 pm

Does anyone here like Arcade Fire? They recently won a Grammy for best album. I just started listening to them and love them. What are your thoughts on the band? If you haven't listened to them yet I strongly recamend doing so.

Pop "Indie" pap that gets far too much recognition for what it isn't.

Also, Arts & Fiction.

Harsh viewpoint, Funeral is a great album, as for recognition, critics highly rated the album, but that doesn't mean it was a chart topper.

Critical recognition is the recognition of which I speak. And I spit on Spin Magazine for their ~~~page coverage of them.

"X album is a great album" --- Music is completely subjective as far as likes and dislikes are concerned. But originality and so-called "talent"? Not so subjective. Arcade Fire are just ANOTHER "Indie" band that in reality are a bunch of hipsters who should stop acting like all the other upstart hipster bands I've ever seen and get a fucking original thought for a change. Going with the relative theme of this paragraph, all other said upstart indie bands should also stop acting like each other and get a fucking original thought for a change, too.

I get it. You wear really stupid clothes, don't clean yourself, make "weird" music, and act "different". Definitely haven't seen that before.

Arcade Fire are so unoriginal that I can't think of another band that sounds like them... maybe Wolf Parade or Frog Eyes. I dunno.

Hang around an urban "Indie" music scene for a month or two and that'll change.

Hipsters. A cancerous canker of "culture" that has somehow flooded many urban areas in America (and, from what I hear, Canada as well) over the last few years. With their "culture" also comes their music, thus Arcade Fire and the multitude of bands who've not yet made it to their level of recognition, yet sound (and look) very similar.

Hipster bashing is tired, cliche, and pointless.

Listen, I listen to indie bands, shop at organic grocers and thrift stores, and my favorite director is David Lynch. I hang out with people in bands, and I've read House of Leaves twice.

Am I your inferior or something?

When I hear this kind of bullshit I wonder how many people actually know any hipsters.

BTW I meant actual bands people know.

So your saying that Arcade Fire are 'hipsters' ok i can deal with that, now what does this have to do with the music they create and why is it so unoriginal?

Why do you need to segregate music? I for one enjoy multiple genres of music whatever sounds good to me.

From what I've heard from them, they sound like the Killers post-Hot Fuss.

I liked Hot Fuss. I didn't like Sam's Town. That new-age rock (or whatever the fuck people call it) just doesn't jive with me.

Still, there's a certain irony how I see hipsters attacked for being shallow, judgmental and lacking originality in ways that are shallow, judgmental and lacking originality.

There are many ways to skin a cat, but you don't waste time finding new ones once you've found what works the best.

Arcade Fire are pretty awesome. I was lucky enough to see them supporting Franz Ferdinand when they were touring for Funeral. As for the grammy win - meh. It doesn't exactly put them in good company.

In other words, they are not the Sex Pistols or another "real" punk band -- or have we grown out of that phase?

I, for one, could give a flying frak about whether a band or artist is popular or not, critically acclaimed or not. Nor do I particularly care what genre label people place on a band or artist.

And I thoroughly enjoy Arcade Fire. Their music is awesome.

"Indie" isn't a bad thing. They actually have a certain (obviously muted) "punkness." And they are just plain good performers with insightful lyrics.

(And, although it only gets them side brownie points, they have a true social concious.)
I quit (again).
