Metallica: Over-rated?

I do indeed. Slayer sucks. People have preferences. If I said I didn't like some non-famous Metal band, you'd never say that, simply because Slayer is a famous and somewhat influential bad.

They're not even the worst thing to happen to metal in the 80s. 'worst thing to happen to...' is a big statement. I'm calling you out for exagerating, not for making fun of a band that's played the Inspector Gadget theme for 30 years.

Funny, I live in a town where I see at least one of their shirts a week. Ultimately they were an example of trendy faux-metal, not the defining artist of faux-metal.

A little overrated, their music is pretty mainstream now unfortunately. It was cooler when it was newer, and it was the only one of its kind. But now you've got every man and his dog playing music that is so similar it detracts from the awesomeness of Metallica.

They're still cool and will always have a place on my ipod, but I'm not gonna go so far as to say they're still the best.

(Loved the concert where they made it look like the stadium collapsed and a guy "died" from getting electrocuted and falling from a scaffold, I saw it on a DVD at my old drum teacher's house.)

With metal I'm pretty conservative about the bands I listen to, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, some Megadeth...same with rock just listen to the more classical stuff, I like underground rap though

I don't really listen to any rock. I like metal, I like punk, I like industrial and noise, I like some free jazz and I like some classical. I'm picky with all of them, because there's enough good stuff I shouldn't waste my time on crap.

Metallilca is massively overrated and Thrash Metal definitely would have existed without them. They didn't really bring much fame to Thrash Metal really either, they didn't become massively popular until they stopped playing Thrash and Thrash didn't become huge because of them.
