the april/may of 2016 issue of azamov's.
new books have gotten to be too expensive and even the most recent of my issues of periodicals had started to be.

zen angel was my kind of escape.
matilda was ok, but i shudder to think what kind of crap hollywood would turn it into if they ever tried to make a move out of it.

i do have a collection of real books too, a dozen or so of hardbacks a similar number of 'trades'
(which means the size and format of hardbacks but without the hard backs)

i even have a shelf of reference materials, including catalogues (of electronic and electro-mechanical fiddly bits), which are mostly a decade out of date.
(still fun and the bast part most of the prices in the catalogues have come way down)

field guides to plants and animals i don't get a lot of use out of where i can afford to live,
and programing languages i've never gotten around to writing any code in.

and stuff about trains, big ones, little ones, all kinds of odd ones, and mostly not about old for the sake of old either.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

"economic freedom" is "the cake"

I'm back with yet another book read: 48 Laws Of Power by John Greene. My opinion is this: While the book manipulates or blatantly misrepresents our current knowledge of history in places, overall it is an entertaining read and good at getting it's rather Machiavellian point across.

If you want a book that explores how to gain and hold power, I'd recommend it not for it's historical analyses (which are often iffy, especially in places where scholarship is ongoing, such as Wu Zeiten), but rather for how it frames history in the context of it's rules. It's a masterclass on writing technique.

Finished Linda Hogan's People of The Whale a while ago, and I only started reading it because of AP English Literature. Definitely enjoyed it, though; normally I'm not fond of Vietnam War-based media, but there's something about how Hogan displays it that makes it a lot more palatable. Besides that, it served as a good accent/demonstration of some of the lessons demonstrated in one of the textbooks I used in my Creative Writing class.
Currently sort-of reading Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart. Not exactly my favorite, but it probably just isn't the book for me, in the first place.

Sharpe's Enemy. Bernard Cornwell. Its part of a series about a British rifleman in the Napoleonic Wars. If you like historical fiction, I'd highly recommend the whole series, the TV show based on it, and everything else by Bernard Cornwell (barring perhaps Fools and Mortals).

After seeing the film, I had to reread Dune. I'd forgotten much in the 40 years since I last read it.
