Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer. I just opened it randomly today to the episode where Henry takes a newly-arrived Indian emigre to a cheap Paris brothel and the newcomer shits in the bidet. I must've laughed out loud for a solid quarter of an hour. The style is just like Miller is sitting in a bar telling you the funniest story you've ever heard. I'm gonna like this one.
"The violence of American law enforcement degrades the lives of countless people, especially poor Black people, through its peculiar appetite for their death." | "There are but two parties now: traitors and patriots. And I want hereafter to be ranked with the latter and, I trust, the stronger party." -- Ulysses S. Grant, 1861 | "You don't get mulligans in insurrection." | "Today's Republican Party is America's and the world's largest white supremacist organization." | "I didn't vote to overturn an election, and I will not be lectured by people who did about partisanship." -- Rep. Gerry Connolly |"Republicans...have transformed...to a fascist party engaged in a takeover of the United States of America."

I’ve read some of her stuff before, namely Downbelow Station. It’s pretty good, and there’s a filk album based on that universe.

Finitys' End is a good album, if that's the one you're referring to. I'm getting some more books in the universe soon.

Empress Dowager Cixi: The Concubine Who Launched Modern China. It details the life and reign of the Empress Dowager and so far I've enjoyed it, just bought it a few weeks ago and could finally sit down and start to read it due to the ice storms knocking out my Internet.

Been reading Marie Antoinette: The Journey by Antonia Fraser. Borrowed it from my library a few days ago as an ebook but ended up buying a copy of it at Barnes & Noble yesterday (hey, I was gonna end up buying it anyways). I may or may not be a little obsessed with Antoinette.

Yeah, that’s the album I was talking about. I should reread Downbelow Station, now that I’m thinking about it. And maybe track down more of the Alliance-Union novels...
