The Bromeliad by terry Pratchett. (I ran out of Discworld books.) Just started it. Something about 4-inch-tall humanoids called "nomes". No, it doesn't take place in Alaska.

I didn't. As soon as the first rape hit. I knew where this was going. One of the strangest and most disgusting traditions of all time. I didn't cry. Whole thing was meh for me. I hoped there'd be more soviet-afghan war stuff.
Saddly, I had to drop the class. They wouldn't let me take two English classes like I did last semester. Stupid BS about it not being fair to the other kids. Life's not fair. Time those stupid kids learned that a diploma isn't a guaranteed thing. And I'm extremely sad on how I got in. One of my best friends from the first semester speech and debate class had to switch schools, so I got his spot. Stinks that class had some of the best Kids I've ever talked/debated with. Only twoof us were allowed to take SciFi with the same teacher this semester The rest of Us had taken 2 English classes (SciFi and Speech and debate aren't college prep),I only got back in cause I dropped my other English class, and my other friend switched schools. :(

The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936-1945, very well written and a great insight into what was going on just before World War II and what drove the Japanese Empire to do what they did. Opened my eyes past the point of just thinking Japan was a militaristic society who just decided to attack the United States because of the embargo's.

Goes into great detail, but still easy to read, and shows every side and is a recommended read to anyone interested in the subject.
