I am currently having fun reading (listening to?) the most recently returned audiobooks from my local library, and Spinning Silver was the lucky book this week. I'm finding it quite nice, with the sort of intricate but not burdensome prose I enjoy. The world is richly painted in the harsh hues of winter and quite reminds me in many ways of Les fiancés de l'hiver (A Winter's Promise in the English translation), a deliciously elegant book I would highly recommend to anyone. Both books balance a beautiful blend of intricate worldbuilding, delightfully complex political intrigue, and a plot that is simply to die for. I've only made it halfway through, and I do hope it sticks the landing, but so far it's been a joy to read.

The History of Philosophy by A.C. Grayling -- 682 pages including index. It was published in 2019. A nice new overview of philosophy from a modern philosopher.

Personally, I do not like audiobooks as I cannot control the pace and most of them read too slowly for my tastes. However, I offer no condemnation for those who prefer them as they are a perfectly acceptable alternative information transfer method.

I have no doubt that if they spoke at normal speed, the books would lose much of their charm. Thankfully, my library system provides controllable speeds. I usually listen at 1.10 - 1.25 speed, depending on the volume, original speed, complexity, and general voicework (accents, affectations to distinguish narrators, etc.).

I've put off Dune just to see how much of a dent I can put into James Joyce's Ulysses until my head hurts.
Judging by the first 8 pages, I don't think I need to keep reading for long.

Chartreuse is my favorite color.
