David Weber - The Apocalypse Troll
CYNIC, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be. Hence the custom among the Scythians of plucking out a cynic's eyes to improve his vision.

John Ringo - The Last Centurian

Good story, but almost as many political rants as Atlas Shrugged and just as welcome.

Just finished The Looking Glass War by the inimitable John le Carré. Truly superb fiction.

Hoping to move on to Liberalism: A Counter-History by Domenico Losurdo, once it arrives.
'A distinction is made in private life between what a man thinks and says of himself and what he really is and does. In historical struggles one must make a still sharper distinction between the phrases and fantasies of the parties and their real organisation and real interests, between their conception of themselves and what they really are.'

The Bhagavad Gita. Apparently, if you meet Krishna's definition of evil, he'll ensure that you're reborn into a similarly evil family.

TIL Krishna is basically a really shitty criminal justice system.

Bernard Cornwell's Saxon/Warrior chronicles.
A historical fiction based upon the exploits of the ancestor of the historical "Uthred the Bold".
The series starts during the time of Alfred the Great (878 ad); and extends through the early/middle years of viking britain.

There is a current miniseries based upon the books yet that is woefully inaccurate to not only the books but to history itself. the books while openly taking liberties is nonetheless culturally & historically accurate!

Both The First book, and the miniseries are titled "The Last kingdom"; refering to how at the beginning Wessex is the last Anglo-Saxon kingdom to survive the "great heathen army" led by the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok in retaliation for the death of their father.

Bezoek Van De Knokploeg, the Dutch translation of A Visit From The Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. A big hit back in 2011, given how it won the Pulitzer Prize and other awards.

I am reading a variety of professional books. However the one item I am looking at right now for entertainment is The Ancient Engineers by L. Sprague De Camp. He wrote some nonfiction.
