I've been reading The Guns at Last Light by Rick Atkinson.

I finished the previous books in the series and pouring through this book at a rapid pace. Began reading it two days ago and already halfway through.
An Oligarchic state where the ultra-rich govern a nation of entrepreneurs and innovators. Just as corrupt, hedonistic and materialistic as you think, despite its progressive policies and emphasis on quality of life.

Soumission by Michel Houellebecq for fiction.
Who We Are and How We Got Here by David Reich for non-fiction.

Both are very good.

This book is FANTASTIC. And that's relationships in the sense of any interpersonal relationships, including coworkers and your fellow NSers.

still slogging my way tediusly through cities in flight. (middle of the last and thinnest story. quant and dated are words that come obviously to mind. some of the science, extrapolated from when it was written, is not that unreasonable, though different courses have ultimately been taken. vacuum tubes and slide rules. almost unintentionally steampunk. long before either the term nor the genre existed)

in the mean time though, i've read a couple of real good ones.

the space ghost ship mystery; polaris by jack mcdevitt is an absolute delight.

i'm not sure what the other one was, its been that long already,
but it might have been tony hillerman's 'fallen man',
those are always good.

Alex Scarrow - Last Light

Just started it, so I cannot give an valid opinion but it seems good so far.. I'll be going to the sequel, Afterlight, next.

NS stats are not accurate.

The Republic of the Popular Councils of Neo Kerala is a Marxist-Leninist-Maoist state. Founded in 1948 after our NatDem Revolution, we took the side of the PRC and Marxism-Leninism (Mao Zedong Thought) during the Sino-Soviet split. After the Hua-Deng coup, we joined the RIM, and followed the shining path of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. We struggled against old and modern revisionism and uphold the Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, mainly Maoism, also held by our Comrades in Peru, Turkey and Brazil, and support the PPWs in India and the Philippines. Long Live People's War! People's War until Communism!

I'm reading The Secret Adversary, by Agatha Christie. It's not her best book, I don't really like the Tommy and Tuppence series very much. I prefer her books that aren't in any specific series, such as Towards Zero or And Then There Were None (which is probably my favourite of her books).

I'm not that far into it. But so far it's an interesting read into the mind of a junkie, especially when you consider how Dick himself suffered from drug problems.

Such a fantastic book. The second one is good too. I haven't read the third book.

I will get the second book today, in the meantime I read..

Daddy Lenin and Other Stories - Guy Vanderhaeghe - I started off not liking this and generally don't like short stories either but it grew pretty fast on me - kind of stories about unresolved childhood - someone gave it to me, I'd never have picked it up myself. Alas I left it in the airport with the last two stories unread.
Tony Takitani - Haruki Marukami - again.. a short story, again given to me.. pretty depressing.

I also read Superintelligence about AI that is remarkably a bit out of date already despite being published in 2016.

I've been given The Go-Between by LP Hartley, which is one of those books I know of and feel I should read but haven't yet.. I did note the famous opening line.. "The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there."

I suspect I'll read Cixin Lu's second book first.
Eldest, that's what I am...Tom remembers the first raindrop and the first acorn...he knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless — before the Dark Lord came from Outside..
