Just finished Trotsky: Downfall of a Revolutionary by Bertrand Patenaude, on the recommendation of one of my teachers. I liked it quite a bit. Thought it did a good job of portraying why Trotsky became as romanticized as he was/is, while still portraying his faults fairly.

Reading The Book of What Remains by Benjamin Alire Saenz as well. Some really beautiful poetry, though I really have to clear my mind beforehand in order to truly appreciate it. Great, emotional coverage of the author's experience in an immigrant family, that has some wry humor thrown into the mix as well.

Next on my list for poetry is Making Certain It Goes On: The Collected Poems of Richard Hugo. I haven't decided what other book to read next, though I got No Country for Old Men and A Canticle for Leibowitz for Christmas, so it will probably be one of those two.

deleted because this post contained a slightly embarrassing semi-political take which was way too recent for me to forgive myself for it

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

This may be one of the best books I've ever read.

I need to reread that at some point. It's been a good six years since I've read it, and it was one of the first books to really make me start thinking about the weaponization of information. Interesting how relevant that book continues to be, seventy years later or so.

Yeah, I was told it was good by my brother in law and a couple others throughout the years. I finally bought it at an airport while traveling last week. It's already pretty good and creepy.

Yeah, Dick is pretty great.

The Aquariums of Pyongyang by Kang Chol-hwan & Pierre Rigoulot

It is the autobiography of a North Korean boy who had to spend 10 years in a gulag because his grandfather was accused of treason. The brutality that the defectors endure in these hard labor camps is unspeakable, and the book demonstrates the ugly face of this "hidden" country in a shocking way.

I'm actually rereading it right now. It's as good as I remember it, and I agree that's it also quite relevant.

Just read The Mostly Come at Night by Benedict Patrick. Its a fantasy book based on folklore. The setting seems decently unique as far as fantasies go.
Now I'm reading Under Ordshaw by Phil Williams. An urban fantasy.
